Kathu is a mining town in the middle of the Kalahari District, and not one of the places you'd expect to find an upmarket shopping mall. However, the wealth created by the mining operations in the surrounding area ensures that the disposable income per employee is among the highest in the entire country. Kathu Village Mall is a lavish centre, with all the major chain stores represented, making it an excellent place to go shopping whether you are a resident or just passing through. Kathu Village Mall on Hendrik van Eck Rd is well positioned to serve the towns of the Kalahari District in the Northern Cape. Conveniently placed on the airport / Debeng road, Kathu Village Mall, in the heart of the Kalahari, is within easy access for tourists travelling to and from Namibia and Botswana. The Kathu Village Mall, solely owned by JSE-listed Resilient Property Income Fund, opened in late November 2008 and has since become the favourite shopping destination for local residents. Sedert die opening is daar 'n voortdurende styging in die aantal besoekers wat die sentrum besoek. Tans besoek bykans 200 000 mense die sentrum per maand.
