🇿🇦🚀 Did you know South Africa just helped bring astronauts back from the Moon?

While the world watched NASA's Artemis II mission make history, a team of South African engineers right here in Gauteng were quietly playing a critical role.
The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) provided tracking, telemetry and data support during the mission from its Hartebeesthoek facility near Johannesburg.
SANSA operates the largest ground station in the Southern Hemisphere at Hartebeesthoek — originally built by NASA in 1963 and handed over to South Africa in 1976.That means our connection to space exploration goes all the way back to the Apollo era.
Artemis II completed a historic seven-hour lunar flyby — humanity's first return to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972 — and South African engineers were waiting to pick up the spacecraft's signal.
South Africa's tracking systems relayed real-time data to NASA during the mission's most critical moments, and the Hartebeesthoek team was part of the effort to bring the crew home safely.
Africa has always been part of humanity's greatest achievements. We just don't always hear about it.
