BUSY SEASON has officially started 😅
Fellow event decorators and small business owners… ARE YOU OKAY?? 😂😭❤️
Because this weekend really reminded me just how much happens behind the scenes that people don't always see.
We had 3 events booked for Saturday, in Kuilsriver, Fisantekraal and Stellenbosch.
Our first setup was for a 12pm party, so we had scheduled the setup for 8am. Unfortunately, there was a race taking place in Kuilsriver that morning, which meant several roads were closed and the traffic was absolutely HECTIC.
We had to find alternative routes and what should normally have been a quick trip from Soneike to Amandelsig turned into a stressful mission. We eventually arrived after 9am.
We also had a few hiccups with the first setup, which added even more time and pressure to an already delayed morning.
That then had a knock on effect on the rest of our day. We communicated with our clients, did what we could and tried our absolute best to keep everything moving.
By the time we were heading to our last setup, we were about an hour behind schedule.
And this is where I really want to talk about GRACE ❤️
A few weeks ago, another small business owner made a mistake with an order I had placed with him. He apologised and asked me to forgive him.
I told him that we are small business owners too. We understand that things happen, and we believe in giving grace because we also hope that people will give us grace when things don't go according to plan.
That conversation came back to me this weekend.
Because behind every small business is a real person.
People who get tired. People who get overwhelmed. People who are under pressure and trying their absolute best to keep everyone happy while making sure the job gets done.
We absolutely take responsibility when we make mistakes. But sometimes things happen that are completely outside of our control.
And sometimes, a little understanding can make an incredibly stressful day so much easier.
Our last client on Saturday was so understanding when I explained what was happening, she even adjusted her party starting time and honestly, I appreciated it more than she probably realises ❤️
So to my fellow event decorators and small business owners…
ARE YOU OKAY?? 😂😭
Because busy season has only just started and I already know we're going to need each other! 😂❤️
Let's give each other grace. Let's support each other. Let's communicate.
And to our clients who understand that behind Elmo there's people working incredibly hard to make your special moments beautiful...
