Our Story

Purveyors of original and interesting locally produced quality crafts, arts and collectables

The Happy Hippie Emporium opened at 16 Martin Street, Lady Grey, on 16 March 2018, and relocated to 5 Burnet Street on 23 August 2019. The shop provides an outlet for the abundant creativity and innovation in Lady Grey and surrounding areas. The many talented creators who until now have had limited access to markets now have a local hub where their work can be seen, admired and purchased by locals and visitors to the area, as well as attract more wide-spread, even international, attention via social media (Facebook: @happyhippieemporium, website www.happiehippieemporium.com).

The proprietor, Lauren MacLennan, has long dreamed of creating the kind of shop she like to go to, one where visitors feel enchanted, delighted and inspired. She created a treasure trove of a shop – and has already sourced stock from a variety of local crafters and artists who display their work for sale on consignment, and hopes to inspire many more to emerge and benefit from this venture. The selection of goods available in the shop is based on quality and originality, with preference for items produced by people in the local area, and those reflecting the overall style of the shop. Stock is continually changing as items sell and new creators come to the fore.
