We are all guilty of making rash decisions at some point in our lives. As a fencing expert, I can comfortably say that this happens more so when people decide to put up a new boundary wall or fence.
The common line that I hear from customers is “Give me something that will stop people from getting into my property!” This is usually after a traumatic incident where a bicycle, car radio, or copper pipes were stolen.
To this I reply “Sir/ma’am, the solution that works best for keeping people out may not be the best long-term solution for your property.” To which they reply “I just need something that will work now!” At this point, I am faced with a dilemma; do I acquiesce and let them get their way or do I fight to the death with hard facts and figures to the detriment of a sale.
“The customer is always right!” they say. So I shut my mouth and make the sale. With customers that have not had a traumatic experience, the conversation is much easier and the expert opinion almost always prevails.
Be that as it may, consumers must understand that whatever decision they make it will impact their property value. I am no real estate expert or anything close but I mean the value drops purely from the fact that they choose a solution that will end up costing them more money and time and a reversion back to the expert opinion once sanity prevails. Indeed I have had customers repeat their mistakes two or three times in this area until they realized that maybe they should listen to an expert.
I am not saying that all the so-called fencing installers that come to your house with pie gravy stained shirts are experts in understanding value but it's always a good sign when they are honest and tell you about the pros and cons of whatever decision that you will eventually make.
One company does this. They even give you an installation manual and video so that you can see how the fence will look and also allow you to save money and do it yourself.
Please visit the link below and see the different installation manuals and products and provide us with some of your thoughts on how this service could be improved to better serve homeowners.
