Key Features

• Design: An anthropomorphic carved wooden sculpture—frequently depicting a jovial man, gnome, or figure with a cap—where the lower jaw acts as the lever to crack nuts.
• Material: Hand-carved hardwood (such as walnut or pearwood) with a dark finish typical of European folk art.
• Origin/Age: Commonly attributed to German, Swiss, or Black Forest (Schwarzwald) woodcarvers from the 1800s to early 1900s.
