Word👂👂👂
If you’re scared of hiring. Here are somethings that are definitely going to happen.
1. They’re probably going to steal from you, make it difficult to steal by having systems in place. Get cameras, stock taking etc. Even with all this , a theif will always make a plan 🤣
2. Don’t hire people that are your social media family , or someone that has a small businesses similar to yours. It’s only logical that they’re there to learn from you, once they’re stable they will leave.
Your social media family will have a certain expectation of who you are. Maka Zweli is a nice lady but the boss side of me isn’t so nice, my business comes first. Never get people to volunteer in your business, rather get people that need work experience through learnerships.
3. You’re still going to hire people that aren’t there to work but just want to take all the information you have for their own business. Get a contract done by a lawyer that protects you from this, get non disclosures etc. Get this done through a lawyer so you can explain exactly what your business does and how you want to protect it. Even with this, they’re still going to probably secretly using your recipes for extra cash 🤣
4. Hire people that want to work, not people that want to be like you. There are people that just aren’t interested in business and are comfortable with working. Once I see that you’re currently running your own cake business , I won’t hire you, unless I’m willing to train you. I’d rather get a pastry chef that’s currently employed and requires less training.
5. Pay your staff a fair salary, don’t under pay staff just to maximise profits. This is where they will start getting creative and figuring ways of stealing from you. Just pay what is fair because that’s the right thing to do 🤭
6. They’re going to be absent. I’m actually not hard on this one because life happens. If you have an emergency you will expect clients to understand, extend the same grace to your staff. Their lives don’t revolve around your business, they’re also people.
7. Your staff will make mistakes that will cost you money. Take a deep breath and move on from it. Find a system that will ensure the same mistake doesn’t happen again.
But in a nutshell, pray for good people. You’re not going to get perfect people, they don’t exist because nawe you’re not perfect.
Find people that respect you and your business.
I’m very grateful for my team, not because they’re perfect but because we understand that we will make mistakes (including myself , rectify and move on.
