MRC Projects We are two past-our-prime retirees, who love working with wood. This is a showcase of what we have done, and continue to do, since 2016.

We have been living in the beautiful, coastal town of Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape, since 2022.πŸ πŸšπŸ›–βœ¨οΈ

Phase 1 and 2 of our privacy fence completed! We are very happy with the results so far. It was so heavy, Mike had to make a "trolley" quickly to help us get the second part from the garage to the house! The wheels fell off, and 3 neighbours quickly jumped in to assist. It weighs about 40 kg, just this section. πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ And what a challenge to put it up. The existing fence was so old, one of the poles broke off and the other one was very loose. So unexpectedly, we had to sink 2 new poles. Two days of back-breaking work. So now, we only have to make and replace the gate, to complete phase 3. And that is our last, large part of home improvement done!β€οΈβ€οΈπŸ™πŸ™πŸ’―πŸ’―
As always, we thank God for giving us the physical strength needed to complete all the work we've done.πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Another fence is in the making... 1.8m high. Our final big renovation project. We need as much privacy as possible in our complex home. By now, BUCO Port Alfred should sponsor us with Duram Primex paint! Mind you, they do give the best prices for us pensioners!

Never mind all the wood! Every piece painted by myself - I don't trust anyone else to do a proper jobπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ₯’πŸ₯’. I shudder to think how many metres of wood I have painted so far... Duram Primex is the answer.

This fence should keep the 8 prying eyes from the neighbours' kids at bay.β›©οΈβ›©οΈβ›©οΈπŸ§±πŸ§±πŸ§±πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

We downsized to 2 bedrooms, and a home with very little storage space. So no space for a study, any of my books or stationery. So Mike designed a crafty little shelf for my essentials. Our spare room is now a bedroom cm study.
And in the kitchen, Mike designed and created our own spice rack, to free up 2 shelves. We stay busy! πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ”–πŸ₯

And then our biggest renovation project started - covering our front patio to become a beautiful, relaxing outdoor escape. Every mm designed and measured to perfection by Mike, a total area of 24+mΒ². Every plank painted, cut, every screw inserted, every roof sheet attached by the two of us. And now we have our main entertainment area, day and night. Added value, yes, but more important, such content created. Now it truly is our home. Still busy decorating it, and will continue to do so; however, our main purpose has been achieved.

We inherited a garden covered in pot plants and a very big thorn tree, dropping leaves and massive thorns. Once the sellers removed their pot plants, we were left with a front area half paved, half sand. The thorn tree had to go - Toffee kept on getting painful thorns stuck in his little paws, and I couldn't walk barefoot outside. My friend and colleague, Jodi Anne Dry and Carel Dry gifted us 27 concrete pavers to cover the sand. And I started paving, leaving only a small area as Toffee's toilet. Our gnomes and few pots add colour, and we now have a lovely, low maintenance front patio garden, complete with Ollie, our water feature to create a soothing, peaceful escape.πŸ–πŸŒ…πŸ•πŸ‘πŸ’βš˜οΈβ™₯️

Our entrance to our home was next on our list. We virtually had no privacy, and being in the first unit right next to gate, every visitor could see whatever we were doing. I overhauled the common garden area outside our fence with a few potted plants, some pavers and other shrubs, and we replaced the rickety old fence with a 1.8m high fence. Of course, designed (to fit the curved wall) by Mike, made and painted by us. Mike even hand-made the hinges. I reworked our garden bench to suit the new colour scheme. It certainly improved the aesthetic value and presentation of our new home.

We moved in with 4 cats and an English Bulldog puppy, into a very limited outside space. Number 1 on our list was to cover our rather sad-looking, exposed-to-the-elements back area, to become a catio for our precious fur babies. The design was tricky, with a curved wall to be reckoned with. But Michael James Crawford spent hours figuring out the perfect way to complete this masterpiece. Painted in white, with perspex windows, a lovely, airy, covered space was achieved just a few months after we moved in. Happy, content kitties, who now hardly leave their home.πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ±πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›
