This is Hudson. I met him at my reading at My Magic Words.
I cannot tell you how it encourages me to see children being exposed to books and read to.
A child who reads, apart from having a bigger, better vocabulary is more likely to be creative, kind, empathetic, a lateral thinker and a problem solver.
Why? Because stories let your child experience situations they would have otherwise never known. They can dive to the bottom of the ocean, fly above the clouds, inhabit spaceships and castles and a myriad other things that otherwise would be impossible.
A story engages them at the very centre of their being, allowing them for a short time to be someone else. To live their lives and their choices - and their consequences. It lets them feel what others would feel in that situation.
In this very strange world, these soft skills are among the most important.
These children are tomorrow’s leaders. They are our future scientists and doctors and engineers. I want them to succeed!
Read aloud to your child - long after they are able to read for themselves. You are setting them up for life.
