In early 1984, the Beachfront Traders' Assocation, also known as Kings Beach Flea Market, was founded by a man with a vision: to provide fun and cheap family entertainment for all who visit Port Elizabeth, as well as provide a safe and affordable trading hub for local traders and crafters. This brain child of Johann Ge**er has grown through the years starting out with a mere 10 traders to standing
strong with as much as 400 traders just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, due to major developments at the beach front during the 2010 period - the parking lot being a transport hub, the size of the Flea Market decreased to 175 traders (current). The vision for the future, however, involves attracting more crafters to bring and sell their wares and thereby have a more diverse offering for visitors. Kings Beach Flea Market has become the biggest attraction on the Port Elizabeth beach front on Sundays and also caters for the International Tourist in the Octagon where African Curio's can be bought. With a variety of food stalls, including delicious Ice Cream, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and ice cold cold drinks, ample parking and a variety of stalls in a safe environment, the Kings Beach Flea Market makes for the ideal family outing. Kings Beach Flea Market also supports various charities in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan, including the Association for the Physically Disabled (APD), Cheshire Homes, Port Elizabeth Community Chest and the Animal Welfare Society.
