Doing what it does best..the name circle hook is derived from the shape of the hook, as the point of the hook is angled back in order to be perpendicular to the shank! Despite what one may think, circle hooks are not as new to the fishing scene! Archaeologists have found ancient hooks of similar resemblance (despite the varying materials- including deer horn in Japan, and shells in the Polynesia) from various parts of the world!
Records by Eldon Best, during the early 1900’s, suggest that the Māori living on mainland New Zealand used to chant the following incantation (or what they refer to as a karakia) over the hooks they produced in order to increase their spiritual goodwill and gathering, and subsequently increase their success (Paulin 2012)!

What sets this Dangles apart from the rest❓
▪︎The wires are 316 Stainless Steel which are bent and twisted off to ensure that they will never open.
▪︎A one-piece high density foam forms the "body" ~ given the bait extra buoyancy. The slight ribbed texture of the foam helps to hold the bait in place.

Kob dangle in action!

It is quite ironic that advancements in tackle over the years have not only played a part in increasing hook up success but to some degree have played a major role in reducing the extent of damage that one may have on the species we target! A shining example of this is the circle hook! The circle hook, which is designed to hook the fish in the corner of the jaw, ensures a higher chance of a mouth hook up than a down the gut catch. Studies have consistently found that circle hooks have a lower rate of hook-related mortalities than your conventional j-hooks.This plays a major role in increasing survival rates of released fish and thus contributes to the longterm sustainability of recreational fishing! Circle hooks can be used in number of applications, whether it be for the use of bait, live bait or lures, from the surf or offshore, for anything from smaller edibles to larger game fish and non-eds! Do you still use your conventional j-hooks or have you moved over from the “dark side”?
