What is everyone currently reading?

I just finished ‘No Place to Hide’ by Susan Lewis 🥹🥹🥹🥹 if you enjoy Jodi Picoult you’d enjoy this book. I love a book that leaves you questioning what you would do.
Then I’m dipping in and out of ‘Hot to Read a Book’ by Mortimer J. Adler. *brilliant* book if you’re serious about your own education.

For read aloud we are on our second Narnia Chronicles book - the kid isn’t complaining but I preferred the first (I’m reading according to author’s order of writing not timeline as publishers print it)
Then the kids is re-reading his Bad Guys books, and begging for the next. He did comment to me the other day he reads them so quick perhaps he should try chapter books (YES!!!!!!).
*I should explain- the problem isn’t that it’s a graphic novel but that he reads them so quickly. *

New books just arrived for our younger readers 🥳🥳🥳🥳 all in excellent condition. I’ve even got some in Afrikaans.

Order recieved at 17:10. I was making supper so only saw it when we were done and straight after everyone had finished and I cleared up I started packing it. Packing done in about ten minutes. Ok twelve I couldn’t find the packaging tape so customer please excise the cello tape (it was very nearly string!). Tomorrow it goes off with the courier.
That’s my aim: to be as quick as possible sending off orders. Once I’ve received your order I package same day and send it the next day. 2-3 days for most areas in SA and you’ll get your books.
I say this because I know that once you’ve ordered books you want to get them as quickly as possible.
Another order just arrived. This time I know where the packaging tape is…

Our current read is The Narnia Chronicles. As you can see my books are not in the 1,2,3… order. Or perhaps you didn’t notice that until now. Yes I can count. The reason I am doing this is because there’s actually two ways you can read this series and I haven’t chosen the publishers order. 😳 The first order is the 1,2,3 … order as the publishers have chosen to present it going by the Narnia timeline. Which does make sense. But my order is the second way; I’m going in the order C. S. Lewis wrote them. Whilst there might be some jumping around I feel it is the way the story is intended to go. Anyway we have started the second book - too late to start again. If you would to read along with us I do have all books in stock.

Special note: I love the way the author acknowledges this is a children’s book 😂 (see second photo )

Yes you can make book piles with me. I understand, I load new books daily and you don’t want to miss out but maybe you also want to see what I load next. Payment secured your books (just click Pick Up ; we’ll arrange courier if need be when you’re ready). Once I get it then I take books out of shop - out of sight- and put them aside. Then when you’re ready books can be sent/ collected. There is no time limit 🙂

Currently I am re-reading The Hitchhikers Guide (I last read it about thirty years ago 😂), it’s a bit of a nostalgic read as it’s the first sci- fi book I ever read - and enjoyed. Though Cosmic Calamity by Guy Bass competes for that position. Then The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the kid’s and my read aloud. I feel he’s now old enough for that. Plus I’m a bit tired of reading Famous Five. Also I feel like something a little meatier. He’s of course working his way through his collection of Bad Guys.

Fun fact: when we think of The Famous Five author I always thought it was just Enid Blyton who wrote them; yesterday I came across this Famous Five that had a rather non -Enid Blyton name on it. Down the rabbit hole I went 🐇 Turns out Enid Blyton stopped writing The Famous Five -perhaps after 20+ she got tired? -and Claude Violier, a French author, was asked to translate some French ones she had written into English. So if your child has enjoyed the first many Famous Fives - you’ve now got some more to look for 😉 I’ve had a quick skim read of the Claude Voilier and all the characters are there. There’s a slight change in writing style- perhaps one could say a little more ‘modern’ 😜 and a little more danger it seems.

I thought we had the whole set on our shelves ….

Eventually I want to expand the bookshop to include other languages spoken in South Africa- after all it is much easier to read in a language that you’re fluent in. So this might just look like four books- but it is a start for German books. I hope you eventually have a selection for all local languages for both adults and children.
