The southern Drakensberg doesn't get the same attention as the main Amphitheatre, and that's exactly the appeal. 🏔️

The Giant's Cup Trail runs 60km from Sani Pass down to Bushman's Nek, through rolling grassland, sandstone outcrops, and some of the quietest mountain scenery in the country.

Five days, four nights, bunk beds in mountain huts along the way. Bring your own sleeping bag and food, the huts just give you a roof and a bed.

Spring rain means one thing for South Africa's waterfalls. They're running full. 🌄

📍 Lone Creek Falls near Sabie is an easy forest walk to a 68-metre drop, perfect for a short hike.
📍 Tugela Falls in the Drakensberg is the second-highest waterfall on earth, falling almost a kilometre off the Amphitheatre.
📍 Berlin Falls on the Panorama Route is worth the stop every single time.

The Free State might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of hiking, but the Rhebok Trail deserves a spot on your list. 🏔️

35km over two days through Golden Gate Highlands National Park, with sandstone cliffs, wide-open mountain views and San rock art along the way. Come sunset, the cliffs take on that golden glow the park is known for.

You’ll spend the night in a mountain hut, so bring a proper sleeping bag as temperatures can drop quickly once the sun goes down.

Less crowded than some of the better-known mountain trails, but with no shortage of scenery. This one is well worth the detour.

A good sleeping bag helps. But if you've ever woken up cold at 2am while camping, you'll know there's more to a good night's sleep. 🌙

A sleeping pad keeps the cold ground at bay, while a liner adds a little extra warmth. And honestly, having a proper pillow instead of a rolled-up jacket is one of those small comforts you don't appreciate until you've gone without it.

Your sleeping bag is just one part of the setup. Get the rest right, and bedtime at camp becomes something to look forward to.
