Help me choose the Apisto! 👀

The blackwater tank is ready… now it just needs its centerpiece.

I'm torn between these six Apistogramma species, and I'd love to hear what you would choose:

Apistogramma agassizii "Double Red"

Apistogramma agassizii Tefé "Red Back"

Apistogramma cacatuoides "Super Red"

Apistogramma cacatuoides "Orange Flash"

Apistogramma macmasteri

Apistogramma viejita

Each of these species has its own personality, colouration and charm, so there really isn't a wrong choice. This blackwater scape was built with Apistogramma in mind. Soft sand, driftwood, leaf litter and plenty of hiding spaces. Now the only question is, which one belongs in it?

An underrated little gem ✨

Meet the Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi) - one of those fish that never seems to get the attention it deserves. Hopefully this will change your mind!

We've just set up this blackwater display to show them the way they were meant to be seen: warm tannins, gentle flow, shaded light and plenty of structure. In the right environment, their golden body, rich red fins and graceful movement are genuinely stunning. They are the hummingbirds of fish the way that hover around a tank.

What we love most is their temperament. They're incredibly peaceful, spend most of their time gliding through the mid to upper water, and do best in a proper shoal of ten or more, where they're noticeably bolder and display their natural social behaviour. The little "sparring" displays between males are all show and rarely cause harm in a well sized group
