D-Day Salute – 6 June
82 years ago, before dawn on 6 June 1944, thousands of young men crossed the English Channel into uncertainty.
Many never made it off the beaches.
Many never returned home.
Today, D-Day is often overshadowed by the events that followed, yet it remains one of history's defining moments—a day when ordinary soldiers were asked to do extraordinary things.
Packed into landing craft, seasick, frightened, and carrying the weight of a world at war, they moved forward not because victory was guaranteed, but because freedom demanded it.
The beaches of Normandy became a testament to courage, sacrifice, leadership, and duty.
As the years pass and the generation that fought fades into history, we have a responsibility to remember.
Not to glorify war.
But to honour those who stood when it mattered most.
Today we salute the soldiers, sailors, airmen, medics, engineers, resistance fighters, and countless others whose actions changed the course of history.
Lest We Forget.
“The eyes of the world are upon you.”
— General Dwight D. Eisenhower, 6 June 1944
