In 2017 I picked up my pencils again and started my creative journey which I'm still on!
This was my first art piece...

I took art as a subject until matric and then completed a 3 year Technicon Diploma in Fashion Design. I enjoyed the art/creating much! much! more than the sewing.🤭

I then pursued a career in the clothing industry which led me to wardrobe design in the film industry.
When I started a family I put that all aside.
After moving to Somerset West in 2014,a few years later in 2016 I started a creative "sewing" volunteer program at the Somerset West Night Shelter which led to me being employed there. It was here that I came across this photo of a local lady receiving a waterproof street sleeping bag.It touched my heart.
So this piece has so much meaning to me....it was the beginning of a flourishing art career.
Thank you to everyone who has ever attended one or more of my painting workshops at: Lourensford Coffee Roasting Co, Webersburg Wine Estate and Fiore Restaurant and Events Venue and now lately also PNA at Stellenbosch Square.
Also thanks to everyone who has bought one of my many paintings. Your support is why I am where I am today!

My name is Kathy Christie and I am a local artist based in Somerset West, Cape Town.
I regularly participate in exhibitions throughout the Helderberg Basin and also create commissioned acrylic and watercolour paintings.
While I love producing artwork, my greatest passion is teaching others through my DrawNear painting workshops. There is nothing more rewarding than encouraging people to discover and grow in their creative gifting, helping them step into a playful, relaxed space where they can develop new skills without fear.
I believe art has a beautiful way of reconnecting us with the child within...bringing peace, joy, healing and a sense of freedom. Watching someone discover confidence through creativity is one of the greatest privileges and it is my hope that everyone who joins a workshop leaves feeling refreshed, inspired and encouraged.
