Lohan Van Dewenter, asked us:

👉 “What weather patterns do Galjoen favour in the Southern Cape?”

Great question! And if you’ve spent enough time on the rocks chasing South Africa’s national fish, you’ll know that Galjoen love conditions that most beachgoers avoid.

🌊 The Galjoen Recipe:
✅ Cold, oxygen-rich water (around 11–13°C)
✅ Strong West to South-West winds
✅ White water and plenty of foam
✅ Slightly dirty water
✅ Rocky structure and gullies

When these ingredients come together, the chances of finding a feeding Galjoen increase dramatically. These fish thrive in rough winter conditions where the surge dislodges their natural food sources and pushes them into feeding mode.
