Commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction: Joint Awareness Campaign
Yesterday, on 14th May 2026 at approximately 9:00 am, all Tibani tenants were invited to attend a joint awareness campaign commemorating the International Day for Disaster Reduction.
Each store was permitted to send one representative to present on its behalf.
The purpose of the campaign was to promote risk reduction methods within the municipal area. This was achieved by educating residents and tenants on how to reduce or prevent the daily risks they face, as well as by outlining the types of services offered by Polokwane Local Municipality.
Purpose of the campaign included:
Disaster preparedness
Fire prevention and safety
Environmental protection
Proper waste management
Crime prevention and SAPS services
Road safety
Local economic opportunities
ID and passport applications
The objectives were:
To increase public awareness of disaster risk and emergency response
To promote fire safety practices in households and businesses
To encourage proper waste disposal and environmental protection
To educate communities about crime prevention and reporting
To promote road safety and traffic law compliance
To inform residents about local economic development opportunities
To provide information on ID and passport applications
Note: Residents were reminded not to forget to tell their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, cousins and neighbours that Home Affairs would be on site for those wishing to apply for new ID cards and passports.
Their presence was highly appreciated.
