It's devastating when you look at this images and see how much people spend on electricity @ SA, till a sad reality of some people that breaks the law by buying electricity from Maputo(which comes with more units at a cheaper price) or bypass(bridge) electricity.Though such acts has serious consequences(for instance you can get a fine starting from R6000 whereas @ Ekurhuleni Municipality you can get a fine starting from R5500) people will rather take risks because it's tough..Families experiencing energy insecurity can face the difficult choice between paying monthly energy bills or putting food on the table.
Even though those alternative unlawful ways of acquiring electricity might seem like better options to save your energy(money) please stay away from such activities since they will set you back in life once you're found guilty.Well the real question is what now because electricity is expensive @ SA and those unlawful ways help us or cope throughout the month.

Energy rates(differ from province to province) and according to your energy providers for instance at Bushbuckridge Mpumalanga you can get 54 units worth R100 whereas at some areas @ Gauteng Ekurhuleni you get 44 units worth R100.

Ekurhuleni Municipality has two tariff types which is Tariff A or Tariff B.
(Tariff A is for low end users) this tariff is not available for internal streetlights, service lights,guard houses, electric boom gates.
Tariff B is a flat rate per kWh.To summarize everything you don't pay the same rates and as for tariff b your rates is once off fixed charge/month whereas as your tariff A its not fixed and the more units you use per month your rate increases.
Only registered Indigents get 50 free units (utterly lacking or in need of something specified).
