Wishing all paddlers competing in the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon tomorrow, the best of luck!
THE ULTIMATE CANOE RACE IS ALMOST HERE
The long wait has almost ended for the intrepid entrants in the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon who tomorrow at 9am set off on their four-day adventure.
Today paddlers will add the final touches to their preparations and make sure everything is in order with boats, paddles and other equipment needed to take them 240km on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The event organisers are making sure all is in place so the caompetitors can enjoy a safe journey from Paarl to Velddrif.
One more sleep and it is race day!
The following is the procedure for the start in Paarl:

📍 Please Note: Registration Venue Has Changed
✅ 2026 Registration Venue: Die Platteland (Old Paarl Rugby Clubhouse)
Located upstream on the opposite side of the Market Street Bridge from the Paarl Canoe Club.
Registration will NOT take place at the Paarl Canoe Clubhouse as in previous years.
🚗 Parking
Paddlers are encouraged to park on the Die Platteland (Old Rugby Club) side of the river. This provides convenient access to both registration and the race start.
🕒 Race Day Schedule – Wednesday, 15 July
07:00 – Registration opens for paddler check-in, goody-bag & race sticker collection
08:30 – All boats must be in the boat pound (no exceptions)
08:40 – Official race briefing
09:00 – Mass start
Paddlers are asked to please allow enough time to complete registration, prepare your boat, and attend the compulsory race briefing.
