Augustus is die tyd vir gras bemesting. En as jy bemes om die grond te voed en nie net jou plante nie - soveel beter!

Belangrik om te weet dat plantvoeding (fertilizer) die plant voed, terwyl goeie organiese kompossoorte die grond voed en die struktuur en gesondheid daarvan herstel.

Bou die organiese komponent van jou grond met lawndressing, dit voed jou gras en kan ook die grasperk netjies gelyk maak. Bemes dan ook met 7.1.3 of 8.1.5.

Wat is lawndressing? 'n Gesifte mengsel van kompos, sand en bogrond. Dit maak die gras gelyk en sit organiese materiaal terug in die grond. Dit beskerm ook die wortels nรก die lang, koue, droรซ winter. Onthou om die gras lekker kort te sny voor dit bemesting en 'n dun bolaag lawndressing kry.

Terwyl die weer nog koel is kry alles lekker kans om stadig in te sak en af te breek met elke natgooi, sonder dat die son dit uitbrand.

Ons het elke sak kompos en plantvoeding onder die son - veral lekker baie lawndressing (wat boonop nou teen 'n beter prys verkoop - R36 'n sak!)

Ons maak selde Groenhuijs of die kwekery na-ure oop, so hierdie is 'n ๐›๐š๐ข๐ž spesiale uitsondering op die reรซl!

Groenhuijs is deel van die nuwe Independent Restaurant Guild FS (saam ons vriende by Heritage on Park , Goldfields game ranch en The Flavour Foundry). ๐Ÿฅณ

Ons gilde vier die kuns van stadige, heilsame kos gemaak van vars, rou bestanddele. Vergeet van wegneemetes - ons fokus op kos wat al jou sintuie prikkel. D**k aan vars tuinkruie, eetbare blomme, stadig-gekookde vleis en varsgebakte brood.

Ons tweede ete van die jaar is by Groenhuijs op die aand van 5 September. Wyn Tuin is 'n 5-gang maaltyd (Cindy van Heritage on Park en Suzane van Goldfields Game Range vat voor in die kombuis!), voorgesit saam met 5 spesiale wyne wat die kos komplimenteer (of andersom, jy kan besluit!).

Kaartjies is ongelukkig beperk, so spring gou as jy wil saam kuier!

It's the final bite and itch of winter! And even so, our Fynbos are as lovely as ever. We can't stop touching and looking... and you can smell them from a mile away, especially in the morning (think herbal notes, wild rosemary, crushed mint, and a warm hint of dry straw). ๐Ÿฅฐ

We get many questions about how to get the most success with them... and the secret really is in the soil. These guys grow in poor, sandy, acidic soils and dislikes rich fertilisers or high phosphorus levels. Once they are settled in your garden, be careful not to dig or turn the soil too close to their roots (they're sensitive like that and don't want that root system disturbed). And then full sun, always. ๐ŸŒž

When visiting us, look out for names like - Stella, Morning Delight, Jolly Joker, Nina's Delight and of course, the beautiful Pincushions (Leucospermum). Take a close look to see the hairs and the beads and the most amazing detail on the flower South Africa calls its own.

Ps. We're open on Monday (Women's Day) from 08:00 - 15:00. Groenhuijs is open too - Kitchen closes at 14:00. โ˜•

The first truck of the season is always our favourite! There's a particular kind of excitement when that truck door opens up.

We travel far (sometimes very far) all year to find the best growers in South Africa. We believe a good and healthy garden starts with the healthiest, strongest plants we can find. What came off the truck this morning was chosen with that same care...
