Selenite is a soft, transparent or translucent variety of the sulfate mineral gypsum.

The name comes from the Greek word selene, which means "moon," because the stone has a soft, glowing light that looks like moonlight.

It’s a very soft mineral and rates a 2 on the Mohs scale, meaning a fingernail can scratch it. It dissolves in water, so you should keep it dry.

Selenite has a very fine vibration and brings clarity to the mind. It’s a calm stone and I stills deep peace. It accesses angelic consciences and communication with higher self. Placing a selenite lamp or stone in the bedroom is believed to promote a calm environment and encourage restful sleep.
