This commission happily made its way to Danabaai, thinking it had found its forever home.

Every painting has a story.

Some are painted with confidence.
This one was painted with persistence.

There were days when I wanted to paint over entire sections. Faces were repainted more times than I care to admit. There were moments of doubt, followed by moments of breakthrough.

Today, standing on Yzerfontein’s main beach with the completed painting and Meeurots in the background, I’m reminded why artists never give up.

This commission captures four grandchildren sharing one of life’s simplest pleasures… building sandcastles together while the Atlantic Ocean, the seagulls and the waves quietly become part of their memories.

Thank you, Dr. Jannie Retief, Annette and family, for trusting me with something so personal. It has been an honour to create this piece for your home.

Sometimes the most challenging paintings become the most rewarding.

I’m taking a little break from my commission of British grandchildren playing on the main beach.

Painting seagulls is my happy place. They always help me find my creative rhythm again and settle into the right headspace.

Today, I’m smiling in the studio, brush in hand, drifting between classical music and heavy metal. An unusual soundtrack perhaps, but somehow it works perfectly.

Life is good. ❤️
