Window shots are tricky, trying to get the right time of day (enough light), the right weather (not too much glare), the right moment (no distracting cars), all to focus on what's in the window and not in the shop behind or reflected from the street.
+
The first shot is during the middle of the day, overcast, with my new clip-on polaroid lens that cuts reflections somewhat but only if you're at a 90 degree angle to the sunlight. I've also edited out the circles of the lights in the ceiling and made the image darker so the reflections don't overwhelm everything.
+
I took the second shot without the lens and have done the same editing.
+
The third photo I took at around 5pm and have left in the down lights. I edited to increase the contrast and colour saturation a little.
+
If you've got any tips on photographing window displays I'm happy to hear them!

Stacks of new washi tapes just arrived for the gift wrappers, crafters and journalers. Can you spot the mini coin purses? One of those is going straight in the shop tape dispenser! I feel like it was made for me.
+
I've put some of these on the website and more are in store.

Oh yum! minski++ is now stocking matcha chocolate covered strawberries and almonds as well as matcha from .co 🍓🍵

The matcha is available in two grades, ceremonial for the best drinking experience, and premium for everyday drinking and adding to food. Both types are grown in Kyoto, Japan, but follow different harvesting and grinding methods resulting in variance in flavour and colour. Think of it like wine. 💚

The metallic watercolours have been tried, tested and approved by June, who donated her samples to the shop to show us how they paint up. Thanks June 😊 Another artist came back to get a second set, so they must be good. Only a few left so don't dally if these have have been on your mind! On the website too.

So clever and well made. This unisex jacket, made in Japan, mimics the effect of boro (meaning rags), an old method of repeatedly repairing garments in times when fabric was a valuable commodity for commoners. Clothing would be patched and stitched to prolong the life of garments over decades.
+
This modern take is an homage to boro, beautifully printed rather than patched. I'd like to think that the owner will, when the time comes, add layers to build on the effect, carry on the tradition and extend the jacket's useful life.
+
Meanwhile, I'm slowly doing some similar (but much smaller) visible mending on Japanese vintage cotton noragi jackets, which will eventually make their appearance in the shop too. There's room for both.

It all began with a walnut tree in the Japanese forest. etches detailed designs into the walnut wood and finishes them with astringent persimmon liquid and beeswax to make brooches, earrings and necklaces with warmth and character.

I came across Cotch accessories when I met brand president Seiji at the trade fair I went to in Tokyo almost two years ago. I've had these beautiful pieces in mind ever since and it's finally the right time for me to bring them to you. Come and see these and more, including some special indigo dyed brooches, in the shop.
