Getting new turf? Don’t skip the prep. 🌱

A great lawn starts with good soil preparation.

Before we lay a single roll, there are a few things we want to see underneath it.

Existing grass and weeds removed.
Any existing vegetation needs to be sprayed out using a non-selective herbicide so it doesn’t grow back through your new lawn. After spraying wait at least two weeks before laying turf.

Good quality soil underneath.
Turf needs somewhere for its roots to establish. We generally recommend at least 50mm of quality turf underlay for Palmetto Buffalo. We suggest Kikuyu for clients with soil high in clay or sand.

The right levels and fall.
Your lawn should be graded so water can drain away rather than sitting on the surface. It’s also worth getting your finished height right before the turf arrives, particularly around paths, driveways and garden edges.

A firm, even surface.
Once the soil is spread and levelled, it should be firm enough that you’re not sinking significantly when you walk across it.

Get the preparation right and you’re giving your new lawn the best possible start.

And if you’d rather leave the prep to us, we offer site preparation services as well as turf supply and delivery. We can help get the area ready so your turf has the right foundation from day one.

If you’re unsure about your soil type, how to properly prepare your site, or which turf variety will perform best in your yard, feel free to give us a call — we’re always happy to help point you in the right direction.

Save this one for the week before your turf arrives. 🌱

Every roll of turf we deliver is cut fresh to order.

That means it stays growing in the paddock until we know exactly when you’re ready for it. We don’t cut turf just to have it sitting on pallets waiting for a buyer.

The reason is simple: turf is a living plant.

As soon as it’s cut, the clock starts ticking. Rolled up on a pallet, it has no soil, no light and very little airflow. In warm weather, heat builds up quickly through the middle of the stack, and the longer it sits, the more stress it comes under.

That’s when you can start seeing yellowing, slower establishment and a lawn that takes longer to bounce back.

Cutting fresh isn’t a sales pitch, it’s simply the best way to give your new lawn the strongest start.

It’s also why we ask for a little notice before delivery. We’d rather cut your turf at the right time than have it sitting around waiting.

If you’re getting quotes, ask one simple question:

“When will my turf actually be cut?”

The answer can make a bigger difference than you think.

You can usually find Dad on the harvester most mornings.

If you’ve ordered turf from us, there’s a good chance he’s the one who cut it.

Because we grow our own turf, we know exactly when it was harvested and exactly when it left the farm.

It’s worth knowing how the alternative can work. Some turf is bought from growers, freighted, and stored before it reaches the customer. By the time it arrives, it’s not always clear when it was harvested.

Ours goes from harvester, to pallet, to truck, to your driveway. Usually within a day.

Dad’s passionate about making sure you get your turf when you need it. If that means starting before sunrise, working back late, or rearranging the harvest schedule, he’ll do it. He knows your project is waiting on that delivery.

Got a question about how it all works? Drop it in the comments—we’ll answer every one.

Work in progress. 🌱
Here’s a look at the Surfside Beach restoration project we’re currently supplying turf for on behalf of Eurobodalla Shire Council.
We’ve delivered 2,000m² of fresh Kikuyu from our Bodalla farm so far — and the results are looking excellent. The Council has done a fantastic job on the installation and it’s great to see the site coming together.
This is exactly the kind of project we love being part of — supplying premium farm-fresh turf for public spaces that the whole community gets to enjoy.
Proud to be a trusted supplier to Eurobodalla Shire Council. 🤝
