Winter w**ds love undoing all the hard work you put into your lawn over summer. The trick is hitting them now, before they seed, so they don’t come back twice as bad next year. Here are the big four to watch for 👇
🌱 WINTER GRASS
Soft drooping clumps with triangular seed heads. Shallow roots, so small patches pull out easily by hand. Bigger outbreaks need the right herbicide, and the right one depends on your lawn type, so check with us before you spray.
🦶 BINDII
The barefoot destroyer. Low growing with a small flower that turns into those prickly seed pods by summer. Get onto it now before the pods form and you’ll save yourself a world of pain come Christmas.
🍀 CLOVER
Clover thriving in your lawn is usually a sign your soil is low on nitrogen. A good fertilise slows it right down, and a selective w**d control takes care of the rest.
💛 CREEPING OXALIS
Looks like clover but with heart shaped leaves and little yellow flowers. It spreads fast, and the seed pods literally explode when they dry out, so don’t let it get comfortable.
The right product depends on what w**d you’ve got and what lawn you’re growing, especially with buffalo and Kikuyu.
