A big thank you to our friends at Bayside Woodturners for welcoming us into their workshop!

The Bayside Woodies have been part of the Carbatec community for many years, so it was great to catch up with some familiar faces and see what they've been working on.

The group is currently working on a fantastic project, making more than 120 handcrafted pens for Australian Defence Force personnel across 12 deployments.

Each pen is individually turned and finished by members of the club, with plenty of time, care and craftsmanship going into every one. It's a thoughtful way to show appreciation for those serving our country, and a great example of how a local woodworking community can come together to make a difference.

Carbatec is proud to support the project by supplying pen kits and finishing products, helping the team put their woodworking skills towards a great cause.

We got to see some of the work going into these pens, and Maddie even found herself getting an unexpected lesson in woodturning! What started as a visit to see the project turned into a hands-on experience, with the team showing her how to turn her very own pen. She certainly wasn't expecting to pick up a new skill that day!

It's great to see a group of passionate woodworkers using their skills to give something back, and we really appreciate the warm welcome, generosity and knowledge they shared with us.

A great weekend of woodworking at Carbatec! 🪵

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Veneer 101 workshop over the weekend.

It was fantastic to see everyone getting hands-on, learning new techniques and discovering what's possible with wood veneer.

A special thank you to Richard Coles for sharing his knowledge, experience and passion for the craft.

And of course, thanks to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable workshop!

Veneer 101 with Richard Coles is filling up. With a class size of 8, there are not many seats left.

Richard has 30+ years in fine furniture and runs his own veneer and timber business. In 3 hands-on hours he'll take you through selecting, preparing, cutting, joining and repairing veneer, and you'll go home with a quarter-laid veneer placemat you made yourself.

Ever wanted to try veneering but didn't know where to start?

Richard Coles, furniture maker and veneer specialist with 30+ years at the bench, is running Veneer 101 at our Tingalpa store on Saturday 17 October.

Three hours, hands-on. You'll learn to select, prepare, cut, join and repair veneer, and walk out with a quarter-laid veneer placemat you made yourself.

To the dads with enough timber offcuts to build another house.
Who own hundreds of tools but somehow still need another one.
Who say "I'll just knock something up" and disappear into the shed for six hours.
Who have a project that has been nearly finished since 2019, and absolutely no intention of throwing away that perfectly good piece of timber.
The dads who taught us how to measure twice, cut once, and blame the timber when it doesn't fit.

Whether he's a weekend warrior, a serious maker, or just really good at looking busy in the shed.
