Did you know the daffodil is the international symbol of hope for people affected by cancer. Cancer organisations worldwide use the bright yellow flower as it is one of the first to bloom after winter, representing spring, new life, resilience, and a brighter, hopefully cancer-free future.

History of Daffodil Day
The tradition began in the 1950โ€™s in Toronto, Canada, when a volunteer organised a fundraising morning tea featuring tables decorated with daffodils.

Giving a flower to donors grew into an annual street appeal and awareness campaign led by groups like the Canadian Cancer Society.

Global Organisations soon adopted the cheerful yellow bloom as their primary emblem to inspire courage and support ongoing research.

Scientific Connection
Did you know Daffodils naturally produce chemical compounds (such as alkaloid extracts like pancratistatin and narciclasine) that have shown potent anti-cancer properties in laboratory studies.
Scientists continue to study these plant-based compounds to see how they can safely help develop future anti-cancer treatments.

Daffodil Day is a major annual fundraising event that supports people with cancer by funding life-saving research, improving early detection, and advancing new treatments.
Donations go towards paying scientists and medical researchers to find better, safer ways to fight all types of cancer. Funds raised also support trials that catch cancer early when it is easier to cure, & leads to improved research which has helped raise Australian 5-year survival rates from 46% in 1986 to 72% today!

Donations also go towards patient care programs to fund practical support and information for families facing a diagnosis as well as ongoing campaigns to teach people healthy habits to lower their personal risk of getting cancer.

Wearing a yellow pin or buying a bunch of daffodils or fresh flowers shows shared hope, love and support for anyone on a cancer journey ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿซถ๐ŸŒผ
