As experienced, highly meticulous flooring installers, we genuinely do things differently.

One thing we never compromise on is floor preparation.

Floor preparation is one of the most important parts of any flooring installation. Get it right, and you give the floor the best possible chance of looking great and performing properly for years to come.

Cut corners, and you’re not getting a proper job.

Unfortunately, we see far too many companies and installers telling customers that preparation “isn’t needed” simply because the customer doesn’t want to pay for it.

But here’s the question…

Who’s the professional?

Just this week, we lost two jobs because we questioned the customers about floor preparation.

One response was:

“It’s a brand-new house, so the concrete is new. I won’t need floor preparation.”

This is something we hear all the time.

The reality is that some of the worst concrete slabs we see are in brand-new homes.

New does NOT automatically mean flat, smooth or ready for flooring.

Every new slab should be properly assessed before the installation team arrives.

If it isn’t, usually one of two things happens:

👉 The installer lays the flooring with little or no preparation.

👉 Or, once they arrive, they tell you the floor requires significant preparation and they can’t install it.

You can then end up waiting weeks for someone else to do the preparation — and potentially paying considerably more than you should.

We do all our own floor preparation.

And we don’t do it the cheapest way.

We do it the right way.

Our goal isn’t to cut corners or simply tell customers what they want to hear. Our goal is to deliver the best possible installation and finish — while helping ensure the flooring is installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements and warranty conditions.

A Very Special Flooring Story ❤️🎤

So, back in 2014, two guys walked into my shop in Osborne Park. One of them had a very strong Southern American accent.

When I asked if I could help, they said:

“We’re looking for a black, very low-pile loop carpet.”

Naturally, I asked what it was for.

They told me it was for Dolly Parton. Perth was the final show of her Australian tour, and much of her touring equipment had already been sent back to Nashville. Unfortunately, her stage carpet had accidentally been sent back too! 😳

So Dolly needed a new carpet for her stage — and she needed it that day so she could perform that night.

I was asked to take carpet samples to Dolly so she could actually walk on them and choose the one she liked. She was incredibly polite and lovely, and after choosing the carpet, she told me I was an “angel.” ❤️

I raced back to the shop, organised the carpet and had it delivered to RAC Arena that same day, ready for Dolly’s show that night.

As a thank you, I was given two tickets to the concert, so Sheryl and I went along and absolutely loved it.

Dolly was everything you’d expect — incredibly funny, entertaining and such a wonderful performer.

One of those crazy little moments in the flooring industry that I’ll never forget.

Rest in peace, Dolly. ❤️🙏🎤
