Our That’s… Odd film series starts this weekend with JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS and INCEPTION!

In case you missed our earlier announcement, we will be playing a few Christopher Nolan and Ancient Greece-inspired movies over the next month as the world awaits the release of THE ODYSSEY.

We’re kicking things off this Saturday with a 1:30pm screening of 1963’s JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, a veritable feast of Ray Harryhausen stop-motion delights, and a 7:30pm screening of Nolan’s 2010 dream-heist movie INCEPTION.

JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS will also be playing this Sunday (June 21) at 7:30pm and Thursday (June 25) at 5:00pm. INCEPTION will also be playing this Monday (June 22) at 6:30pm.

Cinema opens 30 minutes before showtime. Tickets are available in the cinema before showtime.

WHISPERS IN THE WOODS opens in the cinema this Friday!

After La Panthère des neiges (The Velvet Queen), Vincent Munier invites us into the heart of the Vosges forests. It was here that he learned everything from his father Michel, a naturalist who spent his life observing the woods. Now it is time for them to pass on this knowledge to Simon, Vincent’s son. Three perspectives, three generations, one shared fascination with wildlife. We will discover with them deer, rare birds, foxes, and lynx… and sometimes, the beating wings of a legendary animal: the capercaillie.

As many sit in anticipation of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, based on the ancient Greece text, we are offering two previous adaptations of ancient Greek myths.

JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963), plays June 20 (1:30pm), 21 (7:30pm) & 25 (5:00pm) and the Coen brothers’ O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? is scheduled for July 3, 5 & 9 (times TBA), to offer a Grecian formula for fun adaptations of classic Greek mythology.

And while the movie world awaits the release of THE ODYSSEY, a film we may have to wait months to get access to, being your good neighbourly indie cinema, we’ll still offer a three film teaser of Christopher Nolan’s epic films to prepare for his latest film release. Join us to refresh your cinema screen memories of INCEPTION (June 20 & 22, 7:30pm & 6:30pm respectively), TENET (June 27 & 29, times TBA) and INTERSTELLAR (July 2, 4 & 6, times TBA).

Last month, we welcomed hundreds of students to The Bookshelf for our annual Children’s Literacy Festival.

Together with Canadian authors, educators, and community partners, we spent the day celebrating stories, imagination, and the joy of reading!

We can’t wait to continue creating opportunities for young readers to discover new stories, ask big questions, and connect with the literary community in the years ahead.

Some books entertained. Some books challenge us to think a little differently.

Recently, Athena van Nacht, Chair of the Board at Out On The Shelf Out on the Shelf , joined author Mx. Nillin Lore Nillin Lore for a conversation about Carry On: Unpacking Your Internalized, Transphobic, and Queerphobic Baggage.

Together, they explored the ideas behind the book, the importance of self reflection, and how examining our assumptions can help us better understand ourselves and the people around us.

Here’s our upcoming slate for the cinema!

First up, PRESSURE opens today! In the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, Pressure follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Brandon Fraser) and Captain James Stagg (Andrew Scott) as they face an impossible choice—launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.
