I recently had a conversation with a salmon.

I've hesitated to tell anyone because I know these things don't happen to the normal people, but I also know that I'm not a normal person ... I mean ... have you seen what I do for a living?

Anyway, I was walking in Kinghurst Park and glanced at the river and there was a salmon flipping around on its side, looking at me with its right-side eye and waving its tail at me. I've looked it up and the scientists describe a behavior that salmon do called "porpoising" which makes sense because Sam did indeed seem very porpoiseful.

I don't know if "Sam" is short for Samuel or Samantha and I didn't ask because these things don't really matter all that much.

I had been worrying over things like where I'm headed and where I want to be and what-the-actual-fiddlehead-does-the-future-hold. You know, pesky little thoughts like that.

Sam reminded me of that old New Brunswick license plate slogan "Be ... in this place". I chuckled at Sam's tongue-in-cheekiness and now have confirmed that salmon do indeed have tongues and cheeks so this is also quite realistic.

I don't know how Sam reminded me of this. I don't know how exactly Nature speaks to us. I only know that it does.

None of us truly know what the future holds or where we'll end up in life. We make plans and the salmon laugh and remind us to just keep on swimming porpoisefully and playfully.

I would share a picture of Sam but our time together was brief and a little bit surreal so I just enjoyed that moment. This picture is of the place where we connected. Hope it speaks to you a little today!

Crazy how fast the summer is flying by!

Tonight will be my last visit to Garrison, although the market itself runs a few more weeks. I have the wonderful problem of being too busy and needing to spend more time in the shop!

Grateful. πŸ’•

I'll continue to be at Boyce, Kingston and SJ City Market.

As for my thoughts about tariff trade wars, supply chain disruption, and marketplace uncertainty ...

I was out for a stroll with Mr. Finnigan O'Shenanigans and captured this moment. It's worth about a thousand words, but I'll share a few more.

I've rolled with a few changes this year (well, for the past 12 years, tbh). Each one seemed like a disaster at first, and then with a bit of ingenuity and a lot of stubbornness it turned out to have a better outcome than the original plan.

Yes, the latest tariffs will affect me. Specifically my t-shirt sales to the US. I will continue to offer my tea towels, napkins, cotton totes, and other home goods to my American customers. Planning to add a few more pieces to that lineup in the near future! My first sale online was a set of napkins to a dear lady in Tennessee in 2014. She asked for an assorted set of napkins with different designs in different ink colors. It sounded bonkers and yet it's still a top seller. That convo was a springboard for an entire product line for me.

I value my US clients and will continue to offer everything I can to you!

Canadian online customers will be able to continue to shop my entire product line at www.fiddlingferns.com and in my Etsy shop. International customers can continue to shop from me through Etsy.

And last but most, I'm so grateful for my local support. I love in-person shopping and being part of heritage farmer's markets and artisan pop-up markets. These have always been the heart of my business and will continue to be.

I look forward to many more years of peace, love, and screen printed goods! ✌️β™₯οΈπŸ‘•πŸŽ»πŸŒΏ
