the workroom holds workshops, classes and events for sewing and crafts. drop in for open studio rental to work on your own projects, or to buy cotton printed fabrics from Liberty of London or by designers like Cotton + Steel, nani IRO, Lizzy House and Rifle Paper.

These are just some of the button matches we have found for customers in the last little while through our custom button matching service available online at theworkroom.ca! New fabric means another opportunity to dig through the boxes of buttons and see what we can find for your next project. Tell us the colour, size, and quantity you’re looking for, and we’ll rummage through our vintage deadstock button bins to find a handful of fun, project-perfect options.
This service is perfect for finishing a WIP or adding that final, thoughtful touch to a handmade piece. Don't forget to share a little about your project garment type, pattern name, fibre, vibe or a specific detail that matters to you and help guide us in the search!
Once we have a selection we'll send you an email and you can decide which option works best for your project. Depending on button size, each card may contain 2, 4, or 6 buttons. Projects requiring multiple matching cards may take additional time, as we carefully search for consistent styles, sizes, and colours across our inventory.
Don't forget you can always search The Button Dept online! We have two great ways to help you search and find the perfect button for your next garment project. We have three workshops in progress at the moment and you can still join us for all of them! The Pietra Pants/Shorts started yesterday and are a great pattern for beginners who are looking to try making pants for the first time. The back half of the waistband is wide elastic, so there is no closure to worry about. Not sure about fit? A great option is to make the shorts for your first version and then make pants so you know exactly the size you want.
For more intermediate sewists, we are walking through the invisible zipper hack to make a more fitted pair during this virtual workshop.
It's not too late to join. Videos are releasing weekly and everything so far is ready for you to catch up at your own pace - then join the live Zoom sessions for the rest of the class. You'll finish with the complete multi-week video library and lifetime access.

We're bringing Sashiko stencils, supplies and kits to City of Craft! We are working on some new craft kits to launch (hopefully) at City of Craft this year. We'll keep you posted once we get our samples & prototypes in hand!

City of Craft at the Theatre Centre in Toronto - Friday December 4 - Sunday December 6th
City of Craft is Toronto’s largest not-for-profit, juried craft show each December featuring craft-based installations, attracting approximately 4,000 attendees.
The popular Small Paper-Goods Room is back and will be downstairs taking over the BMO Incubator. This room is meant for handmade zines and paper goods priced $40 or less!

We're so happy with the embroidery on the first samples for the 'make something' caps. Due to popular demand, we've brought in some stock of the caps in grey and spruce green to Sprucedale.
Add one to your next order and it will ship from Sprucedale or request local pick up and have it sent down to our Parkdale pick up location.

We are always so inspired by Bookhou aka Arounna's prolific creative projects and we currently have five of her six book in stock. Her newest book 'Botanical Embroidery' is a lovely guide to creating plant & floral inspired designs.
We were especially taken by the Winter Celebrations book which is jam packed with so many project ideas we had not seen before. If you're planning on making any holiday gifts or decorations this year, this book will give you so many ideas!

Our new 5 1/4" Brass Stiletto is perfect to use when working on your projects and keeping seams accurate. It can be used to guide fabric under the foot of your sewing machine, pick seams too small for standard seam rippers, turn appliqué edges and so much more.
The brass stiletto is a must have for any quilter and garment maker. It includes a brass cap for safe storage with a ring so you can wear it on a chain or ribbon.

Happy Halloween! We received a restock of our favourite spooky embroidery kits and samplers this week from Kiriki Press!
Kiriki Press kits are designed and made in Toronto by our friend, Michelle and her team who screen print and assemble everything in their Parkdale Studio. All Kiriki patterns are screen printed by hand with vibrant, water-based inks right onto the fabric so no tracing or transferring is ever required!
Explore embroidery with one of their embroidery samplers. Each kits includes an easy-to-follow lettered guide, plus you get to practice the stitch several times on the sampler before working on the finished piece in the centre. When you are done frame your new piece in a 3" hoop!
These kits make great gifts so now is the perfect time to stock up for your spooky and not so spooky friends.

We hosted our final Handmade Getaway group for 2026 last weekend and it was the perfect way to wrap up the season. We're barely able to capture the volume of amazing things that are created and shared. We know we're doing something right because 90% of the people who sign up are coming back for their second, fourth or tenth visit to Sprucedale.
We can't wait to plan the 2027 season with Rob & Julia of Santosha Farms/Missing Link Adventure Tours. We could not do this without their amazing lodge and incredible farm to table meals. They truly makes everyone feel so nourished and cared for.
We're starting to block off weekends in 2027 for our Handmade Getaways. It's not too soon to get in touch if you'd like to plan your own special weekend for a custom getaway with a group of friends. Send us an email and we can start to pencil in the details with you.
