I snapped this picture of myself when I was at HomeSense today. My face has always had a way of saying exactly what I’m thinking — whether I want it to or not. 😂 And when I caught myself in the mirror and saw this expression, it made me laugh inside!

So… what was I thinking? 😳

First - things are expensive. Like, shockingly expensive.

Second - much of what I saw looked VERY familiar. It LOOKED vintage… but of course, it wasn’t.

Third - they sure DON’T make things like they used too! The weight of an old piece of pottery. The feel of real wood. Heavy brass. A beautifully made lamp. Handworked linens. Original art in an old wood frame. The patina that only time can create. Things that LOOK like they could have come from our grandmothers’ homes… but they don’t FEEL like they did.

Today’s little shopping trip confirmed that “everything old really is new again”. And standing there, it made me even more excited than ever about what I’m doing with Lovey Collected.

If we’re falling in love with these looks all over again… why not look for the real thing? The pieces that have already been here for 40, 50, 70 years. The solid wood instead of something made to look like it. The old pottery with the unmatchable glaze. The original art. The hand stitched linens and lace. The wool. The brass. The decorative plates.

And then there’s the shop Canada 🇨🇦 factor. Many new pieces are manufactured somewhere else and then shipped here. Meanwhile, the originals are already here… waiting to be found, used and loved again. Mixed into the homes and the lives we live now.

And I think that may be one of the greatest lessons to be learned from shopping vintage. It’s about seeing value in what already exists. A reminder that sometimes, the very things we’ve been searching for, have been right here in front of us the whole time. We just need to stop, look around… and appreciate what we already have.

Today’s little trip through HomeSense definitely made me more excited than ever to keep treasure hunting, collecting and sharing the real thing.

🌽 Vintage Corn-on-the-Cob Serving Set

Four vintage Himark corn-on-the-cob plates/cradles from the 1980s, in the prettiest creamy white glaze. Long and narrow with beautifully moulded kernel detail, they’re actually designed to keep your cob from rolling around while catching all that melted butter.

And the best part — I’ve paired them with a vintage ceramic melted-butter boat and its corn-handled spreading brush. The wooden brush head is stamped JAPAN, dating it to the 1960s or earlier.

Fill the little boat with melted butter, garlic butter or your favourite sauce, brush it over your corn and settle each cob into its own dish.

Perfect for late-summer suppers, backyard BBQs, cottage dinners or a fall harvest table. Paired with simple white ironstone and a big platter of fresh local corn, these are just plain fun.

Corn plates/cradles measure approximately 8⅝” × 2¾” and they actually look amazing styled/stacked on a summer/fall harvest table or hutch. You can even add a plate sticker to the flat back to display them on the wall!

That colour. 🤎🍂

The most beautiful burnt rust-orange — warm, earthy and rich, with black, cream, deep red and soft grey woven throughout. It’s the kind of colour that instantly adds warmth and character to a room.

A little boho. A little country. A little Scandi. Very chic.

This vintage ESKIMO rug features a timeless Tibetan-inspired medallion design, graphic border and beautiful long fringe. More than five decades later, it still feels completely at home in today’s interiors. Great design simply never goes out of style.

Beautiful in an entryway or hallway, beside a bed, under a console, in an office, or layered into a living room. Pair it with pale or warm woods, crisp whites, leather, brass and natural textures — it can go in so many directions.

Professionally cleaned and in near-pristine vintage condition — no stains, pet hair or odours. There is one tiny spot near the fringe where a vacuum caught a thread, shown in the photos. A tiny bit of character in an otherwise exceptionally well-kept vintage piece.

As I was collecting coastal art for Anna Pearl’s bridal shower, I was so excited to come across this painting for sale about an hour from our home. It was a bit of a drive but I loved the colours and that “Muskoka feel”.

We have enjoyed it so much in our home, but wall space is at a bit of a premium around here — and I know this painting deserves a special place of its own. So, before offering it for sale, I started doing a little research.

That tiny “anna” signature in the lower corner led me to the revered Finnish-Canadian artist Anna Jalava (1926–2012), whose work is closely associated with the landscapes of Muskoka, Parry Sound and Ontario cottage country.

Adorned in its original and fabulous dimensional gold and ivory frame, and based on its signature, composition, size, materials, the brushwork and that signature, I can confidently attribute this as one of her original pieces.

I don’t often ask premium pricing for the pieces I find. Part of what I love about Lovey Collected is finding beautiful things and being able to pass them along at prices that still feel accessible.

But this one is a little different. Anna Jalava works are currently being offered for $650 and beyond, so I’m really excited to be able to offer this beautiful original vintage oil, in its incredible period frame, for $275.

I think this one is meant for someone who loves Canadian art and feels that same pull toward Muskoka that I do. Or who simply appreciates beautiful pictures and that striking pink sky!!!!

✨ MID-CENTURY MAGIC ✨

Say hello to one (actually two) of my absolute favourite vintage finds: hand-crafted lamps by Dornbusch Studio Ltd. 🌿💡

Just down the road in Kingston, Ontario, Canadian artisan Hildegard Dornbusch created a signature “herbarium” style that is pure magic. For over 50 years, she hand-picked, pressed and arranged local wildflowers, ferns and autumn leaves, sealing them permanently into translucent parchment shades. Then, each shade was bound by beautiful, intricate hand-stitching along the scalloped edges. It is a level of craftsmanship you just don’t see anymore.

Oh… and the real magic happens the moment they are illuminated. ✨ The translucent parchment radiates a warm, golden glow, casting the spectacular, intricate silhouettes of wild ferns, autumn leaves and wild flowers across the room. 🍁🕯️. Truly spectacular! 🧡

I sourced these two particular lamps on two different occasions but I knew immediately that they would make “the perfect couple”. By pairing a classic 1960s speckled stoneware base with a rich, late-70s cobalt blue glaze, you get that layered, lived-in texture that defines a collected home.

I also knew who would love to welcome these into her home. She had reached out to me to express her deep admiration for the large Dornbusch floor lamp that I have shared previously (and am keeping for myself), and asked me to keep an eye out for one for her too!

When I sent her pictures of these beauties… it was an immediate YES. To both!! 🧡🧡

August starts school next week, and before that big adventure begins, I wanted us to have a little adventure of our own. We spend a lot of time collecting old things and talking about the stories and memories they hold. Today was about making our own new memories.

August knows he lives in Stirling, but he doesn’t really KNOW Stirling yet. So today we set out to explore a little bit of the place we get to call home.

We visited the covered bridge and kept an eye out for crocodiles in Rawdon Creek. 😉 We stopped at the beautiful cenotaph and talked about how lucky we are to have neighbours who take such care in making the gardens — and our little town — so beautiful.

We went to Farm Girl Cafe for lunch, where August decided to eat the cookie we had bought for Peepaw instead of the lunch he had ordered for himself 😂. Then we read books, played with toys, and honestly, he could have happily stayed there for hours.

After lunch, T**i (Adi) and August walked to Henry Street Park while I snuck in a visit at The Vintage Junction, where I got to check out the new clothing section ... so good!

It seems those vintage shoes I chose to wear weren’t made for walking… so I drove over to the park to meet up with Adi and Auggie… where I found him happily playing with many other kids.

We may have had to carry him kicking and screaming from the park because he didn’t want to leave but, in that moment, two thoughts were on my mind…. 1). This kid is READY for school. 2). How lucky are we to call Stirling-Rawdon HOME! 🧡

Okay maybe three things… 3). I can’t wait to take these dang shoes off!!! 🧡

The Farmer’s Almanac says summer doesn’t officially end until September 21 — and I’m soaking up every last bit of it. ☀️

But I know that many of you are ready to embrace the cozy season of autumn. 🍂

So, let’s celebrate both! 🧡🧡 The last beautiful days of summer. The first little hints of fall.
