Tony’s Take:
It’s easy to assume a bookshelf speaker is just a smaller version of a floorstander, but the Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 proves that great things really do come in compact packages. Built with the same technology that runs through B&W’s flagship 800 Series, it’s engineered to disappear into your room while filling it with sound that’s precise, spacious, and completely convincing.

Under the grille, the 705 S3 uses B&W’s Continuum cone woofer, a material developed in-house to control resonance without the harshness that stiffer cones can introduce. Up top, the signature tweeter-on-top design isolates the tweeter from the cabinet’s vibrations, decoupling high frequencies for a cleaner, more focused image — vocals and cymbals land exactly where they should, not smeared across the soundstage.

The cabinet itself is no afterthought: Matrix internal bracing keeps the enclosure rigid and inert, so the drivers do the work instead of fighting a resonant box. The result is a speaker that plays bigger than its footprint, with the kind of detail and dynamics you’d expect from something twice the size.

For movie nights, the 705 S3 pairs beautifully as a front or surround stage in a home theatre setup, and for two-channel listening, it’s just as at home anchoring a dedicated music system — equally comfortable with a vinyl setup or a high-res streamer.
