It's another eventful month here at 262B Geary Ave!

Kicking off the month is our Book Club meeting. As always, we invite you to join us in person or via Zoom, even if you haven't made much headway with the book.

The oracle cards workshop on the 15th is already booked up, but do put your name on the wait list!

On Saturday the 20th, Rosemary Richings, author of Stumbling through Space and Time: Living Life with Dyspraxia, will give a presentation on how young neurodivergent people can live their best lives at school and work.

And, just added: on Tuesday the 30th, Ian Cosh, author of Ghosts of Ortona: Reckoning with the Traumas of Canadian WWII Veterans, will read from his book and discuss the process of writing it, and the unanswered questions he's still left with.

You can find more information, and RSVP, on our in-store event calendar -- link in bio.

Everyone is welcome. You do not have to read the book to participate and make new friends.

Not to boast ( hee hee ), but our regulars love our monthly meets.

Like The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, this is a fascinating voyage into a strange and wonderful land, a provocative meditation on communication, biology, adaptation, and culture. In Seeing Voices, Oliver Sacks turns his attention to the subject of deafness, and the result is a deeply felt portrait of a minority struggling for recognition and respect—a minority with its own rich, sometimes astonishing, culture and unique visual language, an extraordinary mode of communication that tells us much about the basis of language in hearing people as well. Seeing Voices is, as Studs Terkel has written, "an exquisite, as well as revelatory, work."

‘We often don’t realise the hurt we’re causing’

A groundbreaking approach to parenting that presents emotional maturity as the foundation for happy, resilient, successful children—from the clinical psychologist behind the New York Times bestseller Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents

“The wake-up call every parent needs.”—Mel Robbins, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Let Them Theory and host of The Mel Robbins Podcast

Emotional maturity is the single most important quality a parent can help develop in their child—it enables a person to function autonomously, handle stress, flourish in diverse environments, form lasting relationships, and achieve personal and professional success.

In How to Raise an Emotionally Mature Child, Lindsay C. Gibson explains the cognitive, psychological, and social challenges children face, from forming strong attachments during infancy to dealing with emotions and achievement in early school age to establishing personal identity in the teenage years. At each stage, she offers compassionate guidance to help parents support their child’s emotional development through the lens of the Seven Parental Mindsets for Maturity, including:

• My Child Is a Unique Individual With Their Own Interests
• My Child is Vulnerable and Requires Protection
• My Child Has Psychological and Emotional Needs That Must Be Met

Identifying common traps and behaviors to avoid and explaining why striving to be a “perfect parent” is impossible and unhealthy, this book helps parents nurture their children’s emotional maturity—and feel good while doing it.

Are you intrigued by the imagery of tarot cards? Have you incorporated Inner Active cards, or similar decks, into your therapeutic practice? Do you like drawing and crafting? We think you might love this workshop! Check the In-Store Events link in our bio to register.

"In this interactive workshop, you’ll craft a personalized oracle card, using imagery and symbols that resonate with you.

With a light introduction to archetypes and symbolism, we’ll approach imagery as a mirror for self-reflection, exploring thoughts, emotions, motivations, and subconscious patterns.

The cards you create can become tools for ongoing insight, supporting practices like parts work (IFS) or shadow work in an accessible, creative way.

We’ll wrap up with a lively group reading where everyone interprets the cards and shares the story behind their creations."

Caversham is excited to be hosting this event as part of Toronto Games Week!

Store update! Drop by our store on Geary Avenue, and you may notice that our front windows now have a mirror finish. That's not just to make it easier to take a selfie with us! It's because we've installed UV-blocking window film.

Why? Take a look at the second slide to see what only a few days of unfiltered sunlight did to one of our card decks 😬

Now, we can safely put books on display. And if you feel like taking a Caversham selfie and tagging us, be our guest! 😎
