Reconciliation is something we do. 🧡
September 30 is a day to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, honour survivors, their families and communities, and reflect on what reconciliation asks of us now.
For us, reconciliation begins with respect, education, and direct support. Indigenous peoples carry generations of invaluable place-based knowledge rooted in deeply human relationships with the animals, plants, land, and water. We have so much to learn by listening to those who carry this wisdom, and by supporting Indigenous-led work in tangible ways.
As a small business, one of the most direct ways we can act is through more of what we already do: paying Indigenous artists for their work and directing financial support toward Indigenous-led causes.
This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, that takes the form of a new Puzzle with a Purpose: Turtle Island.
5% of sales of this puzzle will support XAXE TEṈEW̱ Sacred Land Society its work to restore matriarchal values and laws to Island Salish lands, peoples and waters.
There is a beautiful resonance between Jeannie’s imagery and this work. The mother turtle moving forward with the next generation close behind speaks to care, protection, continuity and responsibility: values that directly echo XAXE’s matriarchal mission.
How are you participating in reconciliation today and every day?
