JESS ELLIOT DENNISON | VEGETABLES

We are so thrilled to be welcoming Jess Elliott Dennison to Stocks for a very special Sunday lunch, cooking alongside Jack and Amy and serving a beautiful menu inspired by her brilliant third book, Vegetables.

Honestly, we can’t seem to keep Jess’s books on the shelves for long enough; Weekday Recipes, Weekend Recipes and now Vegetables are all firm favourites with our customers, and understandably so.

Jess is one of those people we find hugely inspiring. A hard-working mum, incredibly creative writer and cook, and the force behind her beautiful studio, Elliott’s, in Edinburgh. She’s also self-published all three of her books, which makes what she’s built even more impressive, possible and exciting.

Join us for an intimate Sunday lunch where we’ll bring recipes from her books to life around the table, with Jess there to share the stories behind her cooking and writing. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to chat, ask questions and spend a lovely afternoon together over good food.

ANNA ANSARI | SILK ROADS

We are so excited to welcome Anna Ansari to Stocks for a special evening celebrating her beautiful book, Silk Roads: A Flavour Odyssey with Recipes from Baku to Beijing.

Some of you lucky ones will be joining Anna & James at the Kinneuchar Inn on Sunday 20th Sept for their special supper. If you didn’t manage to get a seat, we have something rather lovely for you…

Saturday 19th September, 6pm - 7pm at Stocks
The shop doors will open at 5.30pm exclusively for guests, so you can have a private browse of Stocks and enjoy a drink before we head upstairs.

Join us for a cocktail and a selection of nibbles inspired by Silk Roads, while Anna talks us through the book, shares some of its stories and gives us a little cooking demonstration.

From her Iranian heritage and her father’s childhood walnut groves to Uzbek markets, Georgian breads and the noodles of China, Silk Roads is a wonderfully personal exploration of the way food travels across borders and generations.

Anna will be demonstrating Nokot, a simple and delicious recipe with a lovely surprise of flavour, and one that isn’t pictured in the book, so it will be rather special to see it brought to life.

We will also be cooking Borani, Uzbek Plov and Aubergine Frites from the book for everyone to enjoy.

As Meera Sodha puts it, Anna is “a rare kind of home cook who is able to turn the simplest ingredients into pure magic.” And that really is what makes Silk Roads so special; gorgeous food alongside fascinating history, family stories and Anna’s wonderfully warm voice.

There’ll be plenty of time for questions and conversation, followed by a book signing with copies of Silk Roads available to buy.

And if you’re already booked for the Kinneuchar supper on Sunday, we will also have copies of Silk Roads available to buy there on the night.

COOK THE BOOKS at STOCKS , ALI STONER | SCRAN

We are so excited to welcome Ali Stoner to Stocks on Friday 18 September to celebrate her beautiful new book, Scran.

Ali is joining us all the way from Australia, but her connection to Scotland runs deep. She grew up in Helensburgh, with a mother who had a strong love of cooking traditional Scottish food, and that connection to home, family and food runs through Scran.

Ali is also one of Australia’s most popular food creators Ali Stoner, one of the things we love about her is that she’s not a professional chef, she’s a home cook, and she’s incredibly proud of that.

That makes having Ali at Stocks particularly exciting. We’re a cook school built around sharing good food and making people feel confident in the kitchen, so we can’t wait to bring Ali’s style of home cooking to our table and cook from Scran with her.

And what a book it is. It’s full of recipes, but also stories, memories, family, Scotland and a real sense of place. full of irn bru remedies and pick me ups.

Begin the evening at Stocks Kitchen shop from 6pm, where you’ll have private time to browse and head upstairs to the cook school for cocktails where Ali will share the stories behind the book and enjoy dinner.

COOK THE BOOKS AT STOCKS

What if you could sit around a table with an author whose book you love or whose story you’re curious about and spend an evening getting to know the person behind it?

Together we cook their recipes, from their book, the way they intended them to be made.

They tell us the stories behind the food, what inspired them, what didn’t make it onto the page and why they cook the way they do.

Then eat, drink and talk around the table.

We have been doing versions of this at Stocks. Now we have given it a name.

Cook the Books at Stocks.

Some of the greatest food writers and cooks are no longer with us, but they live on in their books, their recipes and the way they’ve inspired generations of cooks.

So sometimes, we’ll simply choose a book we love and cook from it together.

Because a good cookbook is more than a collection of recipes. It’s a way of keeping someone’s voice at the table.

Our autumn line-up is coming very soon…

Our handcrafted rolling pins were among the very first products we designed for Stocks, long before we opened our doors almost a year ago. They’ve been with us ever since, but we’ve never properly introduced them.

Crafted and hand-turned by Martin exclusively for us, these are our own designs, made with care and built to last a lifetime. Each one is completely unique, celebrating the natural beauty of the wood.

Choose from a traditional straight rolling pin or a French tapered style, depending on how you love to bake.

Simple, timeless and made to be used, treasured and passed on.

Available in the shop now, and coming to our online store soon.
