Every time you bake a cake you might buy a whole bag of each of the ingredients. But most recipes only need a fraction of what’s in the pack.

One poppyseed lemon drizzle cake from the supermarket costs approx £11.37 in ingredients. But you’ll only actually use £2.79 worth. The rest — £8.83 — goes straight to the back of the cupboard which is great if you use it again.

Made myself breakfast for 54p this morning — and the reason it's this cheap is because at The Zero Pantry you only buy exactly what you need. No full bags, no waste, just the right amount.

Here's what I used and what it cost per serving:

Oats — 22p
Fruit and nut mix — 13p
Oil — 6p
Honey & cinnamon — 13p
Total — 54p per serving
