I spent a wonderful evening with the lovely ladies of Bishopsteignton Flower Club celebrating the glories of autumn flowers. As always, they were welcoming, and asked insightful questions as I showed them some designs. I only hope that they enjoyed themselves as much as I did!

Grab some wheat or grasses - dried or fresh (just nothing too floppy!).Cover the base and sides of a block of biodegradable foam to make a waterproof container. Use hairpin shaped pieces of wire to secure the grasses onto the foam. When you’ve covered the foam just cut along the stem ends to make a neat line. Finally add some short stems of cut flowers or dried flowers in the central section to cover your wire mechanics! I’ll be taking through this project around lunchtime on Toby’s show on BBC Radio Devon and Cornwall today

Collect some fireweed flowers to fill a jar, add a cup of honey or sugar and add non chlorinated water to cover the petals. Loosely cover with a cotton cloth and wait for the bubbles, stirring daily for between 2 and 5 days approx. When it starts fizzing, strain and add to clean swing top bottles. Pop into the fridge and ‘burp’ daily to avoid explosions! I’ll be chatting about this incredible herb on Toby morning radio show on BBC Radio Devon and Cornwall tomorrow morning

We’ve just returned from the magical, calm oasis of Hallowarren Barn on the Lizard, Cornwall. Set in lush gardens, with a stream running past the house and just minutes from the gorgeous St Anthony beach. Holiday heaven amid nature!
