Are you predominantly an indoor climber? Mainly focused on sport routes, or only ever seconded on trad climbs? This one-day introduction to trad climbing could be for you.
The aim of the day is to give participants a taste of the skills needed to climb independently outdoors on trad gear, helping you fully enjoy the fantastic climbing we’re privileged to have right here on our doorstep in the Peak District.
Leading the course is the wonderful Montane Athlete Rebecca Coles (.mtns), a highly experienced Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor and accomplished mountaineer in her own right. Rebecca has climbed all over the world, including completing first ascents in Nepal, climbing 72 of the Alps’ 4000m peaks, and most recently working as a Field Guide for the British Antarctic Survey.
📅 SATURDAY 13TH JUNE
📍 Meeting Place: Outside Shop, Hathersage, 9am
• The course will take place at one of the Peak District crags (weather permitting)
•Back to the shop for 5pm for a well-earned cup of tea
What you’ll learn:
• Using guidebooks & crag etiquette
• Refresher on fitting a harness & helmet, tying in & belaying
• Climbing movement on rock
• Introduction to building anchors
• Introduction to trad gear
Pre-requisites:
• You should have climbed either indoors or outdoors before
• You should be able to fit a harness, tie in, and belay independently
