What an amazing night we've had at the beautiful The Halston celebrating the Carlisle launch of 'The Killer's Mark' by M.W. Craven ! It was incredible to see 300 of you there...what a journey you've had from your first event 11 years ago Mike!

As ever, Mike chatted to Paul and had us all laughing as he discussed the latest Poe and Tilly installment. Word on the street is that this is the best one yet. Congratulations on doing it again Mike and flying the flag for Cumbria...we're all so proud of you! 👏❤️👏

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, the lovely Bookends staff and volunteers who have all worked so hard, both tonight and all week, the publicity team Constable & Robinson and the kind and helpful people at The Halston too 🙏🙏🙏

Happy publication day to Nicola Wilding! 🎉 Her insightful and fascinating memoir explores class and division through her own family story spanning three generations and rooted in her Grandparents' farm in the Eden Valley.

It's attracting amazing reviews for the quality of writing and how her own family story and dynamics interweave with the wider political, economic and social history of Britain. Definitely a very important book both for Cumbria and beyond.

Dr Tim Gregory was a star at Words By The Water Keswick this year with many people saying his talk was the best they've ever seen! So we had to invite him to Bookends Carlisle....

**A best book of 2025 in The Times, The i Paper and Nature**

Tim will discuss his visionary new book 'Going Nuclear' which argues the case for nuclear power as our biggest weapon in
the fight for net zero and challenges the conventional wisdom that renewables are the only green alternative. Tim is a nuclear scientist, writer and regular broadcaster across TV and radio. He welcomes debate on his subject matter and we know this will be a passionate and lively event!

Paul Eastham - Secrets of the Hidden People

We're delighted to say this sold out talk has now been rescheduled to Friday 15th May at 3pm at Keswick Museum.

Cumbrians are called the Hidden People because mainstream history claims their Celtic heritage was erased by Roman, Viking, Anglo-Saxon and Norman invasions. This succession of incomes certainly tried to drive Cumbrian culture underground over centuries of suppression but ultimately failed.

Popular local historian Paul Eastham will reveal insights into Cumbria's deep Celtic past and unearth the Cumbrian character at the core.

Congratulations to Shaun Wilson on the publication of his debut novel 'Malc's Boy' , published by ...Shaun is going to be talking about the book at in on 5th June...see link below for tickets!

Shaun grew up in Wigton and his childhood and influences have inspired 'Malc's Boy', which is set in the town. Expect Cumbrian dialect, experimental form and themes of masculinity and violence...it's an astonishing read from a new and talented, energetic voice.

Shaun also works in - we're very proud of you Shaun and so happy to have 'Malc's Boy' on our shelves!
