Out today! The 30th anniversary reissue of Ben Folds Five self-titled debut album. Straight out of Chapel Hill, this re-release captures the record that helped redefine ’90s alt-rock. It arrives on double vinyl with expanded liner notes and photos, celebrating a release that still feels sharp, loose, and full of energy.
Disc one features newly remastered versions of the classics Underground, Philosophy, and Jackson Cannery. Disc two finally opens the vault on the once-mythical, previously unreleased shelved first attempt, giving this anniversary set an added layer of history for longtime fans and curious newcomers alike. Out tomorrow! The brand new album from The Tubs ‘Hard Life’. The Tubs have never lacked for ambition — on Hard Life, theirs is to complicate the Tub-ullar experience. Having perfected their chemistry across two prior albums, hundreds of shows, and an ever-expanding universe of bands, the London-based Celtic jangle boyband push themselves further into the shimmering heart of virtuosic indie rock.
On album opener and title track ‘Hard Life’ it’s the sweetness of the ascending fiddle lines in the mix that weds the harshness of Williams’ lyrics to The Tubs’ fist-pumping anthemics. The hard line Williams takes here and elsewhere on Hard Life further troubles one’s idea of a Tubs song. The persona familiar to listeners of Cotton Crown and Dead Meat - to quote Williams, “navel gazing about romantic abjection, London squalor, and the indignities of grief and OCD” - is still present, but so too is a second voice, steelier and more experienced. “The second persona doesn’t have much time for the first,” Williams explains, “often haranguing him for his self-indulgence and immaturity; sometimes fairly, sometimes unfairly.” On Hard Life, these voices argue, pester one another, merge into each other, and break apart, sometimes over the course of a single song. They’re two sides of the same coin, people who’ve experienced grief, disappointment, regret, and shame, emerging from the wreckage as changed men. “I’m interested in the way sympathy and patience for someone suffering always runs out eventually,” Williams says. “How this can be a good and liberating thing as well as a sad and brutal thing. But mostly they’re just pop songs.” Exquisite, irresistible pop songs. Spin them until the healing starts, then spin them again The Tubs Merge Records

Available in-store now: the fifth solo album from Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Sultans, Hot Snakes, PLOSIVS, Night Marchers kingpin Swami John Reis. ‘Navajo White’ features members of Hot Snakes, Delta 72, Drive Like Jehu, Jejune, Pinback, PLOSIVS and more.
Navajo White is a colour. It’s the colour of an off white, interior, house paint. Throughout his teens into adulthood, John Reis was as a house painter by trade. The soiled walls of evacuated apartments was his canvas. Here he would cover up the residue of life’s stains with a fresh coat of the beige, human white-out that is Navajo White. Amongst the vacated, drywall chambers littered with the scant detritus of a fleeing existence is where this record began. It started as road noise, a repetitious hum of a fictional dialogue. A languageless, argument of noise that took shape as a disconnect between two people. They are both barricaded by an impenetrable surface tension that harbours the distortion of their prolonged isolation from the world beyond their self imposed exile. For all that can’t be solved or thrown away here’s a thick coat of Navajo White to cover our tracks as if to say “we were never here and this never happened.”
This is the fifth Swami John Reis album and features Jason Kourkounis (Hot Snakes, Delta 72, Night Marchers) on drums as well as contributions from Rick Froberg (Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Obits) on guitar, Gar Wood (Hot Snakes, Tanner, Night Marchers) on bass, Joe Guevara (Jejune, Swami and the Bed Of Nails) on piano and keyboards and Rob Crow (Pinback, PLOSIVS) and Jacob Turnbloom (Mrs. Magician) on backing vocals. Taking musical cues from later period Wipers, the more low key Saints songs, early recordings of The Church as well as The Damned on their Black Album, Navajo White pits sentiment vs the unsentimental. Recorded by John Reis at City of Refuge, San Diego with additional recording and mixing by Ben Moore at Singing Serpent and mastered by Dave Gardner at DSG Mastering. This record is dedicated to house painters everywhere.

The only break-up record you’ll ever need to own. With its lofted harmonies, pick-pocket rhythms, and wailing-in-the- 2AM-distance ambulance guitar solos, Ida’s 1996 sophomore album leaked out of Brooklyn via detachable car stereo CD players and mixtapes from long distance lovers. Originally issued on the stalwart Simple Machines label, this 30th anniversary deluxe Numero edition of I Know About You adds half a dozen extras, a wealth of photographic evidence, and fresh context from Jenny Toomey and Sara Marcus. Available for pre-order now! Elastica’s iconic self-titled debut returns in a new edition packed with rarities and b-sides. First released in March 1995, it still sounds brilliantly sharp, capturing the energy and emotional blur of life, love and late nights with total confidence.
With Line Up, Connection and Waking Up, Elastica delivered songs that felt immediate then and remain timeless now. Drawing on post-punk and new wave while sounding entirely their own, Justine Frischmann, Annie Holland, Donna Matthews and Justin Welch made a debut full of swagger, cool and clarity.

Just landed! Dinosaur Jr’s brand new studio album ‘There Near’.

The sixth studio album Dinosaur Jr. have recorded in the 20 years since their triumphal rebirth. Created in short, intense bursts over the course of a year at Amherst’s Bisquiteen Studio, ‘There Near’ was recorded almost entirely by Dino’s core trio - Murph, Lou Barlow on bass/vocals and the inimitable J Mascis on guitar/vocals - with a bit of piano and organ work by local master musician, Ken Mauri. And the album roars from start to finish.
