Disciplines of a Godly Man by R Kent Hughes.
After playing tennis with a friend, Alvin decided to take advantage of the lovely weather and stay in Ravenscourt Park to read. “It’s kind of a self-help book,” he says about the book he is reading, “but it’s core is the Bible.” The book illustrates what modern men can learn from men in the Bible and how they can apply this knowledge practically to their own lives. It covers various disciplines that today’s men might target in order to grow in their Christian faith - leadership, marriage, fatherhood, friendship, prayer, and many more.
Alvin gives the book 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommends it to those who are open-minded and willing to challenge themselves. “It is personally challenging to me because it identifies my areas of weakness, but that's the point," he explains, "it's to help me grow."

The lovely Sarah from The Chiswick Gift Company sent us this photo which she spotted on a local forum. “Your shop about 120 years ago,” she said in her message. Initially we weren’t so sure but that does look a lot like the tower of Young’s Corner (aka Artisan) on the right. If that’s the case, Everybody Reads is the 3rd building from Goldhawk Road so it will be the shop with the lettered sign in the photo. Maddeningly, we can’t read it! Can anyone? Or does anyone know what was here 120 years ago?

The It Girl by Ruth Ware

Roberta doesn’t read a lot but when she does it’s always a mystery or thriller. Today she headed for Ravenscourt Park to read The It Girl and she’s loving it. “I like the way it flips between the past and the present,” she says, “I really want to know what happens.” She recommends it to anyone who likes a page-turner.

Here's the plot: April was the first person Hannah met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It Girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Katabasis by R.F. Kuang

Here’s Aparna, still on the first page of Katabasis. It’s too soon to comment on it but, having read Kuang’s earlier books, she’s optimistic. “I enjoyed both Babel and Yellowface,” she told us, “She [Kuang] is a very versatile writer – her books are completely different!”
