Steff took a a small but epic step into Revolution! with our British Army Brigade box.

Keeping her paint scheme simple, but paying attention to highlight key points across the models, she managed to finish the entire box in just under 12 hours!

Exercise your command with Major Henry Spalding!

June's Soldier of Fortune figure depicts the British commander of Rorke's Drift and Helpmekaar during the Anglo-Zulu war, Major Henry Spalding. One of those places is rather more familiar than the other...

In January 1879, Major Spalding was placed in command of the supply depots at Rorke's Drift and Helpmekaar, and their associated garrisons. With Zulu forces known to be in the area, Spalding left Rorke's Drift on the 22nd, seeking a party of overdue reinforcements, and leaving the station in command of one Lt. Chard. While engaged on this task, the news (carried by desperate survivors) of the disaster at Isandlwana reached Rorke's Drift, along with word of an impending attack. With Spalding away, it fell to the forces at the station to put up one of the most famous defences in military history. His reinforcements would not reach Rorke's Drift until after the battle, as he believed Helpmekaar also in danger, and in dire need of garrisoning.

Our miniature, which previously saw duty as an exclusive figure in the dim mists of time, depicts Major Spalding in action, perfect for 'what-if' games - one can readily imagine him and his reinforcements riding the the aid of Chard, Bromhead, &co. in their most desperate moments. He can just as readily serve as any British officer in an Anglo-Zulu war force, making him a versatile miniature and a great opportunity to paint a less-often wargamed period of redcoat soldiery.

Major Spalding will only be available during the month of June - after all, he's got two garrisons to manage - so don't miss your chance to add him to your Soldier of Fortune collection!

The regiments maintained a band composed of specially engaged musicians, the numbers of which were fixed by regulation at 7, plus the Bandmaster, but this figure was exceeded by the Corps in a quite remarkable fashion (up to as many as 40 musicians, but on average 20).

The band was formed in three ranks: the first comprised the "Turkish" style percussion: Jingling Johnnie, bass drum, side drum, cymbals and triangle; the 2nd, the woodwinds: clarinets, flutes, oboes and bassoons; in the 3rd rank was the "brass": serpents, trombones and horns.
