BizClub September 2026 Update

What a fantastic summer it has been! Behind the scenes, the BizClub team has been busy putting together an exciting programme of lunches and events for the remainder of 2026 - with plans for 2027 already well underway.
We have some brilliant speakers, fascinating topics and, of course, plenty of opportunities to catch up with familiar faces and make new connections.
So, get these dates firmly in your diary…

Friday 23rd October 2026
Hugh Vere Nicoll - CEO, Hanbury Farms & Wild Rutland

October sees us welcome Hugh Vere Nicoll, CEO of Wild Rutland, to share the vision behind one of the region’s most ambitious conservation projects.

Hugh and his team are working to open approximately 1,000 acres of historic woodland, parkland and farmland that have never previously been accessible to the public.

Stretching from Burley Wood to the Oakham bypass, Wild Rutland aims to restore important habitats, reconnect the landscape and create opportunities for visitors to experience Britain’s native wildlife within an environment shaped by conservation, education and careful long-term stewardship.

As Hugh explains:
“Wild Rutland aspires to be an exemplar model of conservation-led ecological tourism, one that restores heritage landscapes, reconnects people with nature and sets a benchmark for sustainable land management in the UK.”

Hugh will give BizClub members an insight into the work already taking place, the scale and ambition of the project, and his hopes for Wild Rutland’s future.

Friday 20th November 2026
Alicia Kearns MP

In November, we are delighted to welcome back our local MP, Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford.

Alicia has established a prominent national profile, particularly through her work in foreign affairs, national security and international relations, alongside her continued involvement in issues affecting communities across Rutland and Stamford.

Before entering Parliament, Alicia worked extensively across the UK Civil Service, including on counter-terrorism and counter-disinformation for the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence.

In 2022, she became the first woman to chair the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee, taking a leading role in scrutinising UK foreign policy and championing issues including international human rights.

Closer to home, Alicia has also been a vocal advocate for the rural economy, local businesses, farming and the communities she represents.
At our November lunch, Alicia will reflect on her work in Parliament, the political landscape and the challenges and opportunities ahead - before opening the floor to questions from BizClub members.
With plenty happening both nationally and internationally, this promises to be a particularly interesting and lively BizClub lunch.
