What do I do with these beauties? Often the challenge is simply deciding the best way forward for its next chapter in life, should it be restored, make cushions or cover a stool. Frankly when a rug is this worn the value and beauty are obviously considered but outside the box. How else can this be users we have many antique cushion fragments in stock. Beautiful original Zieglar pieces to worn belouch and many more. @

This is what happens when you leave your son in charge of writing the sign to say we are closed tomorrow. He’s doing a grand job holding the fort but family commitments for him tomorrow mean the studio is closed while I’m off recuperating from my bilateral hip op. Could be worse. Could have been the knees! We open as usual during these next few weeks@on our reduced hours Wednesday 17th June.
The centres are all open 7 days a week. They all hold a variety of stock, St Martins in Stamford the largest amount. And all are happy to receive cleaning and restoration which can be collected this week as we have a driver to the workshop. Last minute reel today. All about buying a rug. Enjoy the experience, don’t over think it. And without sounding stupid…buy it because you like it. Not because it goes best with your furniture etc. A rug out lives every other soft furnishing, will travel from home to home and be part of your foundation.

The feature wall shows off a stunning antique silk Kayseri, washed and mounted onto a backing cloth as it’s quite fragile, patched in@places and missing the top right hand corner. Then prints of the Ghats at Varanassi and a general landscape all on display now ready to buy at the decorative antique centre in Uppingham on the high street.

Creating the right weight warp. Here I demonstrate how to unspin and respin the yarn to create the warp or weft required.
This is the first process once the right yarn has been chosen. Working out whether it’s cotton, wool. The spin count and direction are all considered and this video shows you how. Enjoy

What a beautiful picture. My heart still belongs here, Banaris or Varanassi as it is called today. The second oldest city in the world. People travel hundreds of miles to die here in this sacred land. If you haven’t been here, then a pit stop to one of the fullest, craziest cities in India has to be done. The magic and mystique behind my trade always pulls me in.

What a stunning map. It may not be accurate but the detail and basics are there.
Yesterday i inherited more maps and water colours which I will share over the next few days.
The poetry and mystery behind not just the rugs, but the culture, imagery, food, everything is what captured me into joining the rug world.
