The Rug Studio, established by Rachel in 2000 after initially entering the trade in 1994. Rachel having trained as a rug weaver has been restoring rugs for 25 years and actively selling at antique and interior fairs for 23 years. As a single mum to 4 young children her time is split between our Stamford Studio, retail concession at Holt Antique Centre and the London warehouse. Rachel is available by appointment at our Studio or through a home visit. Restoration is still personally carried out by Rachel and respected trained restorers.

4 different rugs in 4 different rooms. The variety out there is huge and the availability to try at home works in ways that Ai can never achieve. A digital process cannot take up and show the subtle affects a rug brings to a room. It doesn’t read the pile. It doesn’t move it a few cm and note the change in time of day and light. Always try the rug at home as you will be amazed the difference this brings to Ai generated ideas. The Rug Studio

Restoration. The art and skill of is something I first learnt over 35 years ago with both Persian and Western restorers. I then learnt more in Turkey and worked teaching in India large scale projects for over 6years the art of sympathetic restoration required for antique pieces.
This is my favourite work these days a nice simple edge.

I just knew this rug had found its new home when I put this down. The elegance, the way it lifts the space with the light border gives it a lift yet the dark field is like a pool of water. This is what you get when you try at home. No AI can quite beat the real thing.

I love this. Bought it at The antique Textile annual fair last Sunday at Chelsea. Where will I find another gem like this. 80-100 years old I love a Tibetan. Colours would benefit from a clean but I was happy!

Refringing a small section. Work can be quick with a good pair of finely nosed pliers, wax and years of experience. This antique Persian afshar had just a few cm missing at one end as the finishing touches were applied.

A snippet of life in 2023. The only things that’s changed is the rug I’m restoring and the stock behind! Here I’m restoring a gorgeous antique little Kazak. I sold one just a couple of years earlier almost identical then the client inherited this one. Who would have thought it!
Restoration comes from within, it’s a passion, that extends from having originally trained as a rug weaver.

And today’s Thracian Sarkoy gem. Lovely and square, excellent condition. Which means more than suitable for a busy household. Wonderful movement in colour and loving the green border. A decorators dream piece.
