HAND ME DOWNS has changed it’s focus recently and will now be selling vintage and retro clothing for ADULTS as well as children! My name is Rosanna and I have always LOVED vintage clothing- from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s especially! Dressing in beautiful threads which fit well, have amazing details and so much thought behind their design is really enjoyable for me. Also, like many peop

le, I’m hugely concerned about the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion and unbridled consumerism, on our planet and it’s inhabitants!! There are many advantages to choosing to buy secondhand -the incredible fabric, design and overall quality of garments (and other items) from bygone eras, is generally second to none. In a nutshell this means the clothes are AWESOME...and if you look after them, they last longer and stay looking good compared to “afforable” factory made fashion. (I think you’ll agree with me that pilling, fading and premature wearing out of today’s mainstream modern clothing is common and consequently means too much clothing is chucked out and ends up in landfill! You’re also likely to wear something that not many people or perhaps no one else has, which is pretty cool. Many retailers spout the environmental benefits of buying vintage or pre-loved, however a few fail to mention that the majority of their stock is sourced OUTSIDE of NZ. A recent bit of casual market research showed that some stores import up to 80% of their apparently eco conscious clothing. Everything I sell, is bought by me in NZ :)
