Twenty five years ago today, Susan Meiselas photographed Liberty Plaza, New York, September 11, 2001, an image centered not on the wreckage itself, but on another work of art. J. Seward Johnson Jr.’s sculpture Double Check, a lifelike bronze businessman pausing over his open briefcase, had stood on the plaza since 1982. In the days after the towers fell, it remained standing amid the rubble, covered in ash and scattered papers, holding its small everyday gesture amid everything that had changed.

Meiselas’s photograph holds both loss and survival in a single frame. On this 25th anniversary, we hold it with care.

The global journey of the Paisley pattern ᐁ✨

Did you know the famous "Paisley" pattern actually gets its Western name from a small town in Scotland?

While this intricate tear-drop motif originally stems from the ancient Persian and Indian "boteh" design, the town of Paisley, Scotland, became the global center for mass-producing these patterns in the 19th century.

Thanks to advancements like the Jacquard loom, Scottish weavers were able to replicate expensive, imported Kashmir shawls at a massive scale. This production boom didn't just reshape fashion history—it renamed the pattern forever!

It is a fascinating reminder of how technology and tradition weave together to create the designs we know today. ᐅ
