Michigan coach says Bryce Underwood is Wolverines quarterback for 'right now' after near disaster in opener.

The sophomore quarterback needed a Hail Mary to beat Western Michigan 13-12 in the season opener.

Heading into the college football season, there was not a single person who would have predicted that Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood would be put on notice after the Wolverines' season opener against Western Michigan, yet here we are.

Michigan avoided what would have been one of the most embarrassing losses in program history to the directional school after Bryce Underwood connected with wide receiver JJ Buchanan on a Hail Mary for a 13-12 victory.

Underwood sailed his first Hail Mary attempt out of the back of the end zone, and despite the clock appearing to hit triple zeros to end the game, officials added one second back onto the clock after a review, which led to Underwood's heroics.

While Underwood's perfect pass to Buchanan saved the day, and perhaps the entire year for Michigan, that doesn't mean he's earned an infinite leash as QB1 in head coach Kyle Whittingham's eyes.

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, the No. 16 Michigan Wolverines escaped an epic upset defeat at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor by defeating the Western Michigan Broncos 13-12 following a highly controversial "1 second" clock replay review.

Following an official review, the Big Ten replay center determined that one second remained on the clock. They ruled that a Western Michigan player had touched the ball while stepping out of bounds before time had completely expired.

On the live NBC broadcast, network rules analyst Terry McAulay heavily criticized the call. He noted that the ball was clearly still in the air when the TV and stadium clocks hit zero.

McAulay later noted that the Big Ten replay center uses an independent Hawk-Eye camera tracking system. It appears this system was not perfectly synced with the physical stadium clock in Ann Arbor, leading replay officials to see a fragment of a second (0.04) left that the stadium clock didn't reflect.

Michigan defeated Western Michigan 13-12 after quarterback Bryce Underwood completed a walk-off Hail Mary touchdown as time expired.

Referees put one second back on the game clock after a replay review showed a Western Michigan player touched the ball while out of bounds with one second still remaining.

The TV broadcast clock hit zero, which caused confusion and outrage among fans who felt the game should have been over. The Big Ten later explained that the official replay clock synced with the stadium cameras was slightly different from the television broadcast.

Western Michigan President Russ Kavalhuna spoke with Mid-American Conference (MAC) commissioner Jon Steinbrecher and Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti late at night to see if the school could contest the outcome.

Kavalhuna learned that neither the Big Ten nor the MAC has a review or appeal process to challenge or change a final score.

Western Michigan is not suing Michigan or the Big Ten over the controversial game ending because college football rules do not provide a legal or formal appeal process to overturn game results.

Rather than pursuing a fruitless legal challenge, school leaders chose to accept the result.

Jill Biden was 23 years old when she first met Joe Biden, and she was 26 years old when they got married. The claim that Jill was a teenage babysitter or nanny for Joe's children when they met is entirely false and has been repeatedly debunked.

How They Met and Their Ages
• The Meeting: They were set up on a blind date in March 1975 by Joe’s brother, Frank Biden.
• Ages in 1975: Joe Biden was a 32-year-old widower and U.S. Senator. Jill Jacobs was a 23-year-old college senior at the University of Delaware.
• The Marriage: They married two years later on June 17, 1977, when Joe was 34 and Jill was 26.

Facts Versus Social Media Rumors
• The Babysitter Myth: Viral internet rumors falsely claimed that Jill was a 15-year-old babysitter for Joe's kids while he was still married to his first wife.
• The Reality: Independent fact-checkers, including Associated Press and Snopes, have shown these social media posts use altered timelines and misrepresent real photos from 1974–1976 when Jill was already in her mid-20s.

SEND THIS TO YOUR "FAVORITE FRIEND" 🥸

Joking and playful teasing between friends is healthy when it is built on mutual respect and shared trust. Good-natured banter shows emotional security, relieves stress, and often signals a strong bond, but it stops being healthy if it targets deep insecurities or hurts feelings.

Why Joking Helps Friendships
• Builds trust: Light teasing proves you feel safe enough to drop your guard.
• Releases stress: Shared laughter boosts your mood and relaxes tension.
• Creates connection: Inside jokes build a unique shared language between close pals.

When Joking Becomes Unhealthy
• Targets deep flaws: Making fun of sensitive insecurities crosses the line into harm.
• Lacks balance: One person constantly becomes the target while the other dishes it out.
• Ignores boundaries: Continuing a joke after a friend shows discomfort is disrespectful.

The more we can respect one another's values without crossing lines the more important we can become for our communities. Learning to laugh at our differences is more healthy than pointing them out.
