The door is wide open at Chase’s Pre-Read Books & More today, the music is playing, the sun is pouring into Belfast, and the shelves are feeling especially magical.

Today’s stack includes The Magician — a beautifully written portrait of Thomas Mann and the complicated balance between genius, family, secrecy, and desire. Quietly powerful and elegant.

Also on the tables: The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter — one of the great Southern novels about loneliness, longing, and the invisible connections between people.

For lovers of strange and brilliant reading, there’s Why Fish Don’t Exist — part memoir, part science, part philosophical spiral into chaos and meaning.

And if ghosts, mystery, and beautifully eerie adventures are calling your name, the Lockwood & Co. books have arrived as well.

Life is good. Books are magic. Open today at Chase’s Pre-Read Books & More, 69 Main Street, Belfast.

American Canon shelf is filling up nicely today at Chase’s Pre-Read Books & More. Hawthorne, Steinbeck, Orwell, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Salinger, Golding… the books that shaped generations, sparked arguments in classrooms, got hidden under mattresses, and made teenagers feel seen for the first time.

There’s something comforting about these old paperbacks too, the cracked spines, strange cover art, penciled notes from somebody else’s high school English class fifty years ago. Little survivors.

Open today 10–5. It’s threatening to rain and there’s a slight chill in the air, so I shut the door and turned the shop into a warm little cave of books again.

Summer reading corner officially unlocked. ☀️📚

A huge thank you to Victoria for the new bookcase — and now it’s filled top to bottom with what I’m calling my Rad Summer Reads section: mostly female authors, all paperback fiction, all under $10, and chosen specifically for people who want something quick, immersive, cozy, emotional, funny, dramatic, or impossible to put down.

These are the kinds of books meant for the beach, the porch swing, the bathtub, the hammock, the park bench, or those late summer nights when the windows are open and the fan is humming. Easy reads. Escape reads. Comfort reads.

I separated them from regular fiction so people can walk right in and immediately find a summer book to disappear into.

Beautiful Thursday at Chase’s Pre-Read Books & MORE at 69 Main Street. The door is wide open, people are drifting in and out, and the shelves are especially good today. A little rain may roll in later, but right now the shop feels bright, alive, and full of stories.

Just in today:
• The Beast in Aisle 34 by Darrin Doyle — a wonderfully bizarre literary horror/comedy about retail work, monsters, and the strange absurdity of modern life.
• My Father in the Night by Terence Clarke — atmospheric literary fiction filled with memory, family tension, and quiet emotional weight.
• What’s Mine and Yours by Naima Coster — a beautifully written multigenerational novel about race, family, identity, and the complicated ways our lives overlap.
• Crooked River Burning by Mark Winegardner — sweeping, gritty historical fiction set in industrial Cleveland, full of ambition, corruption, and survival.
• Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake — an intense, intelligent love story wrapped in philosophy, art, and mental health.
• Plus some fantastic fantasy arrivals from Jasper Fforde and Jonathan Stroud — eerie adventures, ghostly mysteries, strange creatures, and beautifully imagined worlds.

Open today, music on, books everywhere, and always something unexpected waiting on the shelves. 📚

Just put out this fantastic framed vintage Lone Ranger & Tonto tray puzzle from 1953 by Whitman Publishing Co. Featuring bold western artwork and wonderful mid-century color, this piece still has all of its original charm and makes a great display item for collectors of western memorabilia, vintage toys, or nostalgic Americana.

The measurements often listed online include the frame itself, so the actual puzzle image area is slightly smaller. Framed and ready to hang.

Wednesday feels a little quieter today. The door’s closed against the chill, opera is drifting through the shop, and I’ve been putting out some beautiful newer arrivals that feel perfect for wandering minds and rainy-day curiosity.

Lost worlds. Gothic sci-fi. Thailand and Buddhism. Strange histories and forgotten time. The kind of books that make you stop what you were doing and disappear for a while.

Open today 10–4. Come browse awhile.

A new little corner of the shop came together today…Mysticism, mindfulness, spirituality, energy, intuition, and all the beautiful questions humans have been asking for thousands of years.

This shelf is filled with books on Buddhism, yoga, feng shui, chakras, meditation, astrology, reincarnation, healing, empathy, consciousness, and personal growth, from writers like Deepak Chopra, Thich Nhat Hanh, Yogananda, the Dalai Lama, and more.

I also added cleansing sage bundles, little meditation figures, brass decor, and a few objects that simply felt like they belonged here. The whole section has a calm energy to it that I really love.

Sometimes a bookstore section becomes more than a category. Sometimes it becomes a mood. Open today at Chase’s Pre-Read Books & More in downtown Belfast.

The front door is wide open, the sun is pouring through the windows, the music is on, and the shop is slowly waking back up after a long Maine winter. There’s something about this time of year that makes everything feel possible again, books glowing in the light, people wandering in from the sidewalk, conversations starting between strangers.

I’ve been moving things around, building new sections, bringing in fresh stacks, and letting the store evolve again. Little by little, it’s becoming the place I always hoped it could be.

If you’re downtown today, come wander for a while.

Open till 5.
