Want to start rock tumbling for fun or as a new hobby? The National Geographic brand rock tumbler has proven over time to be a great beginner rock tumbler. What’s nice is that it comes with a nice set of rocks to tumble and grit for the four stages of tumbling.

I recommend buying extra tumbling grit, especially for stage 1 which may take several runs to get a fully smooth shape to your stones and a better overall experience 😊

After the sonic clean, I’m checking how this soft-rock load handled the first stage.

I added serpentine to thicken the slurry quickly and help cushion the lepidolite, sunstone, and other softer material.

The results were mixed: the slurry became quite foamy, and some grit remained unused. Definitely something to adjust for the next batch.
